thehefner: (2-Face: "Go to Hell")
For my Playwrighting II class, I've decided to adapt the classic Batman comic "Mad Love," which is the definitive Harley Quinn story. I've been hesitating adapting a superhero comic to play script; one guy here's been adapting espionage stories, and his work's been met with nothing but awkwardness and scorn. But my teacher presses me that this class is all about experimentation, and so I figured, what the hell? Should be fun for a class. But what to do for a full-length play?

I was considering finally getting to work on THE HEFNER MONOLOGUES in some capacity. Thing is, all during the... unpleasantness... with Dice, my stepfather Gordon kept insisting that I use all the rich material for a play. I actually found an old IM of hers that I saved, for whatever reason, and you know, it was actually kinda... warming, that's the best word... to read over something from the long, lost good times. At the same time, I could see all the little games we were playing with each other, fun and otherwise, the little bits we'd show before going back to teasing and jokes. There's some rich character work here for us both. If done right and as objectively as possible, it just might make a damn good play.

But not yet. For one thing, I think I should let a little more time pass, and besides, who'd want to read it? I mean, it could be great and interesting, but this class is about experimentation, and I think we all could use a rest from relationship stuff. For now.

So I've decided to take the chance and work on ARKHAM ASYLUM, the play. There is distinct potential here for something really good. I don't think anyone's done a fan fiction play before, and these characters are so rich with possibilities. Joker, Harvey Dent, Pamela Isely, Jervis Tetch, and Edward "Eddie Nygma" Nashton, with Doctors Arkham and Crane... if I pull this off, it'll be awesome.
