thehefner: (Harvey Dent: I Believe In Harvey)
I am exceedingly giddy today for two reasons. They're each so big (for me, anyway) that I'm gonna give each one its own post.

The first: from MTV News--

It's’s official. Batman’s definitely got more than one Joker to tangle with in “The Dark Knight.” Of course we all know that Aaron Eckhart is playing famed Gotham City district attorney Harvey Dent in the upcoming flick, and of course we’ve all hoped that means an appearance by one of the caped crusader’s most cunning adversaries, but now we know for sure.

“I play Harvet Dent. Harvey Two-Face. They are both in the movie,” Eckhart revealed exclusively to MTV News. Getting much more out of the “No Reservations” star wasn’t easy but he did acknowledge that his favorite scene has yet to be shot.

Now, commentary of my own for a second. I'm hesitant about this because, well, I want to make sure that Harvey Dent himself is a firmly established character that the audience knows and cares about, with real relationships to Bruce and/or Batman (depending on how they do it), and with little flashes of "Big Bad Harv" bubbling underneath the surface. And then, have the acid hit him near the end, and maybe as a last "cliffhanger" shot, show Two-Face. Bam! Twist the knife!

But then the article goes on to say, and I'm putting this in bold, too:

“There are a few scenes I am dying to do. We’ve done a few…but the scene that I really want to do is in October.” So who appears in said scene? Is it Harvey or Two-Face? We coyly asked Eckhart if he’ll be in heavy make-up that day and, responding with a grin, he said, “I don’t know. There might be anger involved. There might be tears. It might be a cathartic day. It might be a lot of love.”

Holy. Crap.

It sounds like they got him. It sounds like they get Harvey. It sounds like they at least get the heart of the character. Anger, tears, catharsis, love... yeah. Yeah, all those sum up Harvey Dent, as I've always seen him.

Fingers crossed, man. Favorite character of all time here.

Tammy called me up this morning.

And no, that's not the news I'm excited about, although it's fascinating that she, of all people, should be the one to call me up to tell me this news. Tammy of ALL people!

For those who don't know Tammy, the short version is that she's more or less the reason why I started telling The Hefner Monologues. We're on good terms, but because she's the flightiest girl I've ever known, we have virtually no contact today (and even though I'm pretty well totally over her, that's likely for the best). So what would possibly make her call him up?

"Did you read the Sunday Source section of the Washington Post???"

"No... why?"

Well, they have a top five "Can't Miss" list, with such things as the new Harry Potter book's release, a live big-screen showing of the Buffy musical episode, and at number one, the Capital Fringe Festival. So what?

Um... so THAT.

...

...

Tammy said that I was hyperventilating when she told me the news.

(She said that I beat out Buffy and Harry Potter, and while that's technically not true... YEAH, FUCK YOU, J.K. JOSS!!! ;p )

She also said something about a listing somewhere in the Post or the Fringe guide or something that lists the most notable shows for each day, and on one of them, THE HEFNER MONOLOGUES is at the top.

This bodes very well for the possibility that people could get hooked by the name/premise alone. I was still so afraid that people would see "one man show" and get scared off. But dude... people are interested. People are fucking interested. And what's more, after performing it for the first time last night, in front of an audience of a dozen or so people... I now know that I have a great show here.

Between this and the upcoming ad in the Washington CityPaper, I'm hoping to pack the 35-seat theater space for all five performances.

Rock. And fucking ROLL.
