"Same old, same old... some people need killin'." An Overview of JONAH HEX
Yesterday, they leaked the first picture of Josh Brolin as certified badass Jonah Hex:

He's gone being the grizzled star of 70's western comics...

... to the time-tossed and still-grizzled Mad-Max-versus-mutants antihero of the 80's...

...to being killed, stuffed, mounted, and somehow still kicking ass beyond the grave...

... to fighting underground worm-men and zombies in BUBBA HO-TEP's Joe R. Lansdale's supernatural take (and getting sued in real life by Johnny and Edgar Winter)...

... to his current criminally-under-read series written by Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti...

... featuring a plethora of brilliant artists such as Darwyn Cooke...

And J.H. Williams III:
On top of that, Jonah has been teaching children to be badass for years with his epic appearances in BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES (voiced by DELIVERANCE's own William McKinney) JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED (voiced by FIREFLY's Adam Baldwin, alongside FARSCAPE's Ben Browder as western dandy Bat Lash), and even the kiddie-friendly BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD!
Even the great Thomas Jane so understood the badassery of Hex that, when he heard they were casting a film, he got some makeup artist friends of his to spend a day getting him in full Hex FX:

Brolin got the part, and while he will likely be better in the role, I can't help but feel glowing geek admiration for Jane's dedication.
I'm still undecided if he looks better this way or if they'd have gone full "Two-Face in DARK KNIGHT" CGI with the scarring (oddly enough, they gave Eckhart!Harvey the Jonah Hex connective mouth tissue touch).
Of course, the movie sounds like it could be a load of ass anyway. While I agree that going the supernatural Lansdale route would be the way to go for a feature film rather than a straightforward western (even though that's where the very best Hex stories are found, if the current series is any indication), the plot concept of John Malkovich as a voodoo practitioner raising an undead army of Confederate soldiers doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.
Also, at the risk of outing myself as a homosexual/eunuch/houseplant... between her bogging down TRANSFORMERS and her recent "Wonder Woman is lame" comments, I have to confess that Megan Fox and her lack of internal organs does nothing for me..
But Brolin as Hex... for that alone, there are possibilities. Here's hoping the performance is sufficiently grizzled, and that it actually stirs up interest in the character's series, which I'm still frankly amazed has avoided cancellation for this long. No one seemed to read it when I worked at the shop, and I never see scans of it on scans_daily. I'd rectify that if I had the free time.

I always liked Jonah Hex as a character-haven't really read any of the comics of any series. There's something automatically cool about a cowboy with scars and a freaky eye.
Everytime I see the name Megan Fox on IMDB's daily news thing, it seems like she's complaining about something. She seems to be a very grumpy star/sex goddess. (Even I get the t&a appeal of her. But her grumpiness is winning her no points in converting me.)

Seriously, where the hell has Browder been lately? Besides STARGATE? When I told my henchgirls that I couldn't get into STARGATE because it's just so dry, they gave me positively heartbroken and shellshocked looks (sort of like my last girlfriend when I told her that LOVE AND ROCKETS did absolutely nothing for me... oh crap, I hope no one reads that), so I'm willing to concede that maybe possibly there's a worthwhile time to be had there... but damn it, the guy needs to be in more things period!
I wholeheartedly recommend picking up a trade of the current series! I dunno which I'd suggest for the first one, though. They're all pretty strong. Just flip through 'em and see which has the prettiest art, and go from there! :)
See, yeah, I just can't really find Fox's particular form of sexiness sexy. It's just really not my type, even if it's 99% of every straight male's type. Heck, she doesn't even HAVE that much T&A, does she? Hearing that she's a repeat grumpy-pants isn't helping me either.

I'll have to check out the Jonah Hex series. I like the Superman World of Krypton series but I keep expecting it to be..something more than it seems to be so far. What I expect, I don't know?
Batman and Robin done by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely...ok Batman and Robin are chasing after a talking frog guy on page one...but I'm liking all the little bits of argument between them, ok, ok...NOOOOO Morrison damn you, you just had to pull out more freaky F'ed up bad guys (this time in a pig mask) that waxes on and on about the "pure state/sanity of pain and suffering in a crazy world..." Morrison needs to learn how to write new types of villains. There. I said it.

BATMAN AND ROBIN, I'm reserving judgment until issue... 3 or 4. I'm inclined to agree with you on Morrison, but.... well, let's see where he's going with this.
