Ooh, mayhaps a drive to the NY audition should be in order...?
From Chud.com: "There's this thing about geek chic. Something that's geek chic can have a real underground cachet, be really cool not just to the geek crowd, but to the hipper normal types. But geek chic never lasts - eventually the thing just becomes geeky. Star Wars is like that, and so is Monty Python. In fact, one of my favorite things about series one of the Office (latest in geek chic?) is how two of the more annoying tools on the show quote Monty Python.
Anyway, open casting is about to begin for six fellas to play the young Pythons in a movie version of Graham Chapman's memoirs, Gin and Tonic. Since it's an open call, and the producers are turning it into a publicity stunt by giving out a prize for the most outlandish costume, expect lots of cries of "It's just a flesh wound!" and plenty of funny walking.
"We wanted to cast as wide a net as possible for the Pythons," says David Eric Brenner, president of Hippofilms, who is producing the movie. "Our goal isn't just to find six look-alikes, but to discover six incredibly talented performers who embody that Pythonic brilliance and lunacy."
According to Jim Yoakum, Director of the Graham Chapman Archives, "We wanted these auditions to be fun, somewhat silly affairs that Graham would be proud of. That's why we're giving away prizes for the most absurd costumes."
The first open audition is in California on March 20th, then they will move to New York, London and, believe it or not, Japan.

When I got to see John Cleese last year at the Lisner in D.C. (WOW, WOW, WOW!) he told a story about how Graham had been invited to speak at some University or something, and Graham went dressed as a carrot. And DIDN'T SAY A WORD the entire time.
*starts calling around looking for a carrot suit*
