EDIT: PAD's responded, and it looks like he wasn't responsible (although he DID issue a report to Marvel), but he ain't shedding any tears.
Guys, I am seriously, seriously upset. I... I can't even get my thoughts in order here. There are many logical ways to look at all this, I know, but right now, the purely emotional response is all I've got. I never honestly thought I'd have an appropriate time to use this icon, but right now, this is it.
I just think about all the wonderful comics that I'd never have even HEARD of without scans_daily. About all the awesome people I've met and friended from there**. Including a girlfriend! A girl who was the best damn person I met all last year, who I wouldn't have met otherwise if she hadn't been taken with this intense Harvey Dent fanboy! Scans_Daily actually got me laid!
But most of all, when I think about all the goddamn hours I've put into scanning and cropping and writing and editing posts of my own, and to think they're all just gone... like tears in the rain...
It's... it's the only place I've had for years now where I could actually just let loose with my love of comics and Harvey in particular, knowing that there would always be at least a few people who would get it and share my passion.
I literally have nothing else like that, never have. Not the comic shop, no social circle IRL, certainly not comic conventions, and definitely not anywhere else on the internet. Message Boards, jesus god save us all, never again. Even with the occasional troll and handful of fools and jerks, scans_daily has been a godsend to me as a fan. A place that would *daily* remind me why I'm a fan.
PAD, or whoever's responsible: way to totally fucking ruin the euphoric giddy feeling I had from getting a good review.
*And, if I'm not mistaken, he's LYING, as no, the whole issue of X-FACTOR was NOT posted! The mods have been rather strict about their "half an issue or less" rule. Which may not be any more legally sound than if they HAD posted the whole issue, but let's get the fucking facts straight first.
**Roll call: who here do I know purely and solely because we met on

But I would like to say congrats on the good review.

But in reality, I'm just too crushed at the moment.
But hey, at least I have a good review, and thankya for the congrats. That's what really should count, in the long run. Sigh.

Le sigh. It seems like everything on the internet is getting cockblocked by the man these days.
Well, at least your show rocked socks. :D

Yeah, in the end I guess my show rocking is what matters. :)

I agree s_d was a fantastic resource in many ways, despite the many pinheads who posted there in force. But... all the awesome scans! That is sad.

I wish I did have links, but unfortunately, all the evidence was on scans_daily. I mean, I doubt anyone would give a shit legally if we even still had the evidence, as I'm sure we're still in the wrong in the letter of the law.
I know, all the awesome scans! Like, new and current scans I can live without, but what about all the rare and obscure ones? The indie comics and back-up stories that no one read when they first came out? The lost treasures? The found treasures that deserve rediscovery?
There's got to be a way for us to have it both ways. scans_daily has been the best way I've ever known to celebrate comics.

Congrats on the good review! 'The Hefner Monologues is a modest-sized piece with a very big heart' That's just wonderful.
I'm trying to keep busy engaging in pointless arguments about the community on CBR, otherwise if I stop to think about what's been lost I'll get pretty upset. I just realized that I was a member of scans_daily longer than I was in undergrad. My relationship with the community lasted longer than any romantic relationship I've ever had. I've known some of you guys longer than my own best friend. That's a lot of time and emotion invested in a simple LJ community.
We'll try to rebuild. It sucks that we've lost all those scans and all those wonderful conversations, but I'm willing to give a new community a shot.

Oh god, you're joining in the CBR discussion? You're a braver woman than I. And I'm not even a woman!
I do want us to keep moving forward in some way, for scans_daily to exist in some fashion. Because you nailed it, this community has outlived whole relationships. A lot of time and emotion invested indeed.
Wow, how bipolar...totally worthy of a squeeboo
And squeeeeeee on the good review!!!

Some of us fools and jerks resemble that remark! :D
But at least one jerk/fool is very happy for the positive review. Congratulations!

Goddamn. A one-two punch.
Okay, I have to finally ask: why oh *why* do you have a Spider-Bitch icon?

I mean, I buy Tarot:WoTBR for the lulz, and I know my lame ass art school friends who are into ~*graphic novels*~ wouldn't get it! Who will I turn to when I want to squee about Deadpool being so blindingly awesome? What will I do without being able to get my friends into comics by showing them the Epic Ridiculous that is I Can't Believe It's Not The Justice League (but at least I can buy that)? MY LIFE IS NOT WORTH LIVING WITHOUT GAY PICTURES OF IRONMAN AND CAPTAIN AMERICA. >:(

I, for one, will not miss the Porn Weeks. But still...!

Wow. Peter David is kind of an idiot.
His daughter is nice, at least.
no subject
Tempting though it is to echo that sentiment, I hesitate on the grounds of trying to give Mr. David the benefit of the doubt. Was he within his rights to do what he did? Almost certainly, from what I know. At the same time, I think he's suffering from serious internet-inexperience syndrome. How else to explain someone getting personally horrified and hurt when someone tells him to DIAF (Die In A Fire)?
It's like someone going, "That person told me to 'Go to Hell'! He/she literally wishes me to burn in the lake of fire for all eternity! That's worse than the time someone told me to 'Go stuff myself!' Stuff myself with what?! Where?! That's horrible! And would be terribly uncomfortable!"

I met you thanks to our mutual love of Harvey and Hal. And our mutual
lovefear of Sinestro.Ah, memories. Hank Henshaw bonding with Superbrat Prime on Earth-44. Starro handing out the fuck-you cupcakes. The eternal suckiness of being Harvey Dent. Ruffles the Red Lantern, and his hopeful future adoption by Kyle Rayner. Mocking Gail Simones' writing on Teen Titans and having her politely respond...
no subject
Nowhere else... NOWHERE... could you have found bits like Ruffles and "Fuck You" cupcakes. That was pure scans_daily style!

Gah.
We will rebuild. Or, rather, someone with more techno-savvy and free time than I will rebuild, and I will merely mooch off them for comics once more.
S_D turned me onto Blue Beetle, Watchmen, and Gotham Central. I would not be nearly as nerdy on this issue without their help. This just makes terribly sad.

Exactly, s_d was an amazing nerd-enabling and education database! We need it back! (said ala Gary Oldman as Jimbo) "I... NEED IT BACK!!!"

Man, this has been a drama and a half ... I wanted to tell you I really appreciated your voice of sanity on the PAD blog, which I am staying well away from because I think any opinions I state would be given more weight than they truly represent. But you were brilliant!
I can understand why you don't want to come over to IJ, but damn, I would love to have you join us. If you change your mind, hurry on over! And be sure to keep an eye out on
(Also, on an entirely different note, I never got a chance to tell you that your Project Rooftop entry rocked!)
no subject
Yeah, I merely offered a passionate but personal viewpoint, nothing that mattered in the realm of real life or Da Law, saying how great and thoughtful and civil (compared to virtually every other internet forum) s_d was. PAD was just like, "Well that's interesting, considering my experience there. Maybe I just found the bizarro scans_daily or something," things like that, dripping with sarcasm and snark. Things devolved from there, and I've stayed out of it, thankfully.
... well, shit, when you put it like that, I guess I will come over to the IJ side. (I'm *wanted*? Yay!) I can deal, particularly if it's just a midway point to bigger and better things.
And thank you! Wait, you mean our Joker and Harley? Or the Riddler and Zatanna one that didn't get picked?
