Bean Lanterns

You were warned.

THE BLACKEST NIGHT "DRINKING" GAME IS UNDERWAY.

So as you can see, I've had to go with team affiliations rather than strictly adhering to color. Trying to find beans to correspond to the Blue Lanterns, Indigo Tribe, and Star Sapphires were tricky. Thankfully, the great [livejournal.com profile] nymphgalatea stepped up to the plate, suggesting I use light and strictly blue-blues for the Blues, dark blues and purples for the Indigo, and pink the HELL out of the Star Sapphires.

My local candy store also lacked a comprehensive selection of Jelly Bellies (they had most, but it would have been nice to get, say, "Grape Crush"), but I dare say I made do.

So what do we have here, you ask?

Well, as you know, DC is about to unleash their epic comic saga, THE BLACKEST NIGHT, featuring the war between the Color Corps. So to make things even more fun, we've come up with this "drinking" game!

Here's the goal: for every Lantern member who shows up, you eat a corresponding bean!

In case you don't know the various Corps, here they are:

And so what beans do we have to go with each Corps?

WILLBEANS

Green Apple, Kiwi, Margarita, Watermelon, Sour Apple, Sour Watermelon, Mango, Lemon Lime, Juicy Pear (all three of which really flirted with being Fearbeans, but that's the risk of all Green Lanterns, is it not?).

HOPEBEANS

Blueberry, Berry Blue, Sour Blueberry, Sour Raspberry

FEELBEANS

Island Punch, Plum, Sour Grape

LOVEBEANS

Bubble Gum, Cotton Candy, Strawberry Cheesecake, Strawberry Daiquiri, Candy Cane, Tutti-Fruitti, Sour Strawberry

RAGEBEANS

Sizzling Cinnamon, Very Cherry, Pomegranate, Raspberry, Red Apple

GREEDBEANS

Cantaloupe, Sunkist Orange, Sunkist Tangerine, Orange Sherbert, Sour Orange

FEARBEANS

Crushed Pineapple, Sunkist Lemon, Lemon Drop, Pina Colada, Top Banana

DEATHBEANS

Wild Blackberry, Grape Jelly, and a smattering of Licorice. Because much as I hate licorice in anything not-absinthe, it just had to be this way.

And if we do eventually see the rise of one or more White Lanterns, thankfully there are plenty of options for LIFEBEANS: A&W Cream Soda, Cafe Latte, Coconut, and French Vanilla. Mmm.

Oh hell, let's see this one again, but bigger!

That's the stuff.

Now, if I were truly bold and wanted to give this a serious Russian Roulette flavor, I'd have bought a pack of these and sprinkled them in with the appropriate colors. But no, alas. I want to have a good time. And really, that really requires someone else to laugh at you when you end up eating a Rotten Egg jelly bean. Besides, only about half of them are comparable with the ones listed above.

Regardless. Bring it on, DC. Bring. It. ON.

Have I mentioned lately that you are my favourite geek ever? Because you seriously are.

Also, I want to devour all the Willbeans and Ragebeans, between them they have almost all my favourte flavors.

!!!

So totally blushing like hell right now.

You think I should post this at s_d and/or link to it on noscans?

By the way, I just discovered that I missed (was locked out at the time) the scans of the Hal funeral issue, and I made the damn fool mistake of reading the comments. Jesus, some of those people will take *any* opportunity to bitch about Johns. And to slam him in favor of even one of Ron Marz less asshattery-filled issues...

... damn it, I just need to drown my fury in Ragebeans. (Remember, if you put the Ragebeans and the Willbeans together, you get the combo for my Harvey Dent as a Lantern costume! Which side will win out?!)

I think it would be really cool if you linked to it on [livejournal.com profile] noscans_daily.

Man, the Green Lantern posts at scans_daily ver 2.0 really aren't worth he headache. The books could be EPIC (which I'm willing to admit they aren't, but they sure have their moments!) and there would still be that persistent whine in the background, just loud enough to be annoying. It's almost always the same people making the same arguments, and they're just not going to change their minds (well, I shouldn't say that, but it sometimes feels that way). Even worse, I usually end up posting a knee jerk response to them without thinking and end up taking things in a direction I never meant them to go as a result.

I don't know, they're just a terribly relentless group sometimes. I'm just going to keep making the occasional Green Lantern ♥ post and doing my best to ignore the haters. It's really not worth it.

Whenever I try to picture that Christmas carols spring into my head. Yet it's still kind of awesome.

Done and done!

I used to get so fed up when the same handful of people would badmouth Hal (and while some of the badmouthers were idiots I could dismiss, others were people who I knew to be really smart and thoughtful, and it killed me to see people like that hatin'!). But now, it seems the hate is just going toward Johns in general.

Yeah, they really aren't worth the headache. But for what it's worth, I always appreciate whenever you do post a response. I've pretty much always agreed with everything you say there, Hal-wise. It's nice to see someone be sensible. Keep up the good work!

And yeah, that's the problem, isn't it? I still think Harvey being half Blue would work better with the Red, aesthetically. But I fear he's a Green, through and through. Hopefully if I ever do the costume, it won't look like Harvey the Christmas Lantern.

Yeah, that's what makes it so difficult for me to just ignore certain comments, even though it would be the mature thing to do. The people I argue with most frequently tend to be my favourite posters in general because they do often have a lot of interesting things to say and strong opinions. I know they're not just hatin' for hatin's sake, they have legitimate issues with the writing/characterization, but I just get frustrated! Can't we all squee together? Like the things I like, dammit!

Of course then I consider how boring that might actually be...

I hope someone gets creative and draws Dent as a Red/Green Lantern, since I'm impatient and want to get an idea what it would actually look like on paper.

Why is it that you decided on green over blue? I can see it going either way, but I admit I have only a superficial grasp of the character.

Well, we don't all have to ARGUE. Thoughtful and passionate-but-controlled discussion, on the other hand, are among the times when scans_daily's at its best!

But sometimes, yeah, I'm right there with you. Why can't we all just agree with me?

I'm already seriously plotting how to try and bring the Harvey Green/Red Lantern to life as a costume. If I must, I'll commission someone to draw it, just so I can get a model from which to work!

I originally thought Blue because I thought of Harvey as trapped helplessly with his dark side (and utterly lacking willpower because he surrenders his freedom of choice to the coin), with nothing left but to HOPE that he'll eventually be saved.

But in doing some major revisions for the novel, and suddenly rethinking the entire of nature of what Two-Face really is, I believe that he's actually keeping the dark side from taking over entirely by sheer force of will power. It'll make a bit more sense when I write it all out, and it's subject to change until I do, but that's the theory I'm bouncing around at present.

DEFINITELY link it to NoScans. This is the neatest thing ever.

Motto with Kagome! You're my new favorite geek =D

Heya Scotty! Thanks! :)
