... there's a new flag-waving film out on video called "9/11: Time of Crisis," about the Bush administration's swift and heroic (insert uncomfortable coughing fits here if you're like most people who read this LJ) reaction to the 9/11 tragedy. In the film, Bush is played by Timothy Bottoms. Who, if you'll recall, has played the president previously.

On "That's my Bush!"

I just find it a rather amusing line to draw, even if I find the film itself (from what I've read from imdb.com and amazon) to be rather unsettling and perhaps even a bit disgusting.

"That's My Bush!" was a great show, though, and it's a shame it was cancelled before 9/11... while those following couple months might have been hard to satirize on, Trey Parker and Matt Stone'd be having many a field day over the past couple years. I still wish they'd make the film, "George W. Bush and the Seven Crystal Tigers."

I gave That's My Bush two episodes. They didn't work and I gave up.

I'm reminded of Team America. They gave the Matt and Trey a shot based on a concept with potential and their proven ability to turn a concept with potential into funny. It worked on South Park, but nothing else they've done has worked nearly as well.

I'm further reminded of the later Mel Brooks movies. His early films were hit-or-miss, but more hit than miss. Later, it looked like he'd start a film with six genuinely good jokes, and figured he'd come up with new ones in the process of shooting. And he'd come up with six good new jokes, and then add fifty more to pass the required 90 minutes. The result is Dracula: Dead and Loving It: twelve good jokes, fifty so-so ones, two dozen losers, and a film that wasn't worth the making.

But hey, if the gags in That's My Bush worked for you, then who am I to bitch?
