Taking a break in between novel/play writing to make/steal icons. Say, for those who do such things, how can I make animated icons? If not vid-caps, then at least slide shows? I'd like to make icons of the "I threw a rock at him!" scene from Batman, as well as the entire arrow scene from SIN CITY. I downloaded gimp, but I couldn't figure out how the hell to use it.

Eh, if I don't figure out how to do it, it's probably just as well. I have too many distractions I waste my time on as it is. And besides, for whatever reason, realplayer won't let me do screencaps (ctrl+PrintScreen doesn't work), so I'm not sure I'd be able to do the Batman one anyway. Still, I'm a geek, and we like to waste our time on such things, now don't we?

I'm sure there are tons of better animation programs, but the absolute simplest is this Ulead drag&drop animator. Small and easy, though you might want to find a gif compressor if you're using a ton of frames.

Yeah, I can't believe I forgot to mention the arrow scene when we discussed Sin City last night. That was the only scene that made me laugh out loud. Boothe says it's his favorite - either that or Marv dragging the guy across the pavement while he drives.
