So I saw HIGH TENSION today. A couple thoughts. One, I really want to see the undubbed DVD. Seriously, english dubbing is for shit, even when it's the same actress dubbing herself. Secondly, one really stupid twist aside, this was the best slasher film I've seen in a damn fucking long time. Gone is the two-headed specter of SCREAM and Japanese horror influences, as well as the MTV stylings of the Texas Chainsaw and Amnityville remakes, thank God. This movie is glorious with the gore and even has boobs, two things that modern horror movies have been sorely lacking. It kinda helped that the killer looked like Bob Day sometimes. I rather like the moral of the story: if you're a hot girl and you masturbate, Professor Bob Day will kill your entire friend's family.
I also saw TAKE ME OUT today. I really enjoyed this play, even though it felt like three plays that weren't exactly tied together that well. The best part of the show was the subplot about the neurotic gay accountant who becomes a fanatical convert to baseball. I wish WAC people could have seen this, because this man was Jason Rubin in every conceivable way. Oh, it was astounding. The mannerisms, the comments, the physicality, the excitement, the almost innocent enthusiasm... it was Jason. I'd love to see Jason do this show. And I'm sure he'd love to do it, since virtually every single cast member in this play about baseball players gets full frontal naked. Eh, they were all well and good, but not one of them could put the lime in the coconut, if you know what I mean. You do? Great, 'cause I don't.
