This time from the Washington National Opera, of all places. The e-mail said: "I pulled your photos from the League auditions because I think you are just right for the Super Soldier roles in I VESPRI SICILIANI which will be performed by Washington National Opera in the Opera House at the Kennedy Center - opening September 17." Super Soldiers? What the hell is this, an opera of singing Captain Americas? I didn't realize Verdi was a comic fan.

Oh wait, upon rereading the letter, this isn't an audition. They actually WANT me (and others on the mailing list) to come do it. This would ALSO conflict with stuff, by the way. Regardless, I'm just kinda taken aback, since this just seems like a particularly odd casting request. It'd probably also be paying, which is very good. It's probably ensemble, which in any musical production is never fun and I don't even know what it'd be like in opera.

On the other hand, Placido "man-god" Domingo himself is fucking conducting. Dude.

These should all be good things! Why is it so damn conflicting, and not just in the schedule?!

"Kill da wa-bbit, kill da waaaabbit...."

Classic. Hey, people are noticing you! That's a definite start. You don't have to take the first part that comes 'round, so just hope that something else comes along that works for you. However, if the role required you to wear a Viking helmet...I'd drop whatever else you are doing.

Someday I'll be able to say, "see that guy, I pretended to smoke weed with him in a show.... No really, I did.... What? You don't believe me? I'll kill you... See, look what you made me do! Believe me now?"

Aw I was totally gonna comment with a Bugs Bunny opera themed bit. You've thwarted my plans for the last time, Brotzman! Well, not really. But whatever. You *did* make the comment about Mel being a fat ho, so that makes everything all better.

Oh wait, this is Hefner's comments...well Hef..."Weeetuuurn, my wuv..."

Hmmm...

From the two or three operas I've seen, yes, it means ensemble work. You're an ensemble cast member without a speaking or singing role. It also means - probably - that you wouldn't have too many rehearsals.

Do the follow-up. Get more information, especially if it pays. If you want to make acting your gig, you gotta do the time.

Yeah, but when you think about it, what's gonna really further me, especially on the resume- an ensemble "emoting" gig in an opera (and I have no interest in pursuing opera) or a lead role in a Shakespeare play? I don't know what the pay is, but it almost certainly ain't great, and quite frankly I'd be much happier (and it's be much better for me for my acting career ultimately) doing King John for free. I can always wait tables for money if I need to, god help me.

Now the Woolly Mammoth show, now THAT right there is the ticket, all the way. You bet your ass I'm gonna give that audition my all.
