"Heyyyyy, Travlin' Jack..."
Feb. 8th, 2004 05:29 pmJust finished the book on tape of Stephen King and Peter Straub's The Talisman. Wow. Just... wow. Great adventure story, and a hell of an anti-fantasy parable. There were some problem areas, sure... Jack was kind of a prick sometimes, the Oatley Tap and Sunlight Home sections went on a tad bit longer than was necessary, Sloat was a bit too evil at times (Sunlight Gardener was fun though, especially at the end), and God, I hope King and Straub went easy on the similies for Black House.
But like any story worth reading, these flaws were forgiveable in favor of the excellent story they had to tell. I'm gonna pick this book up once I can find a good hardcover copy and I'm gonna read the whole thing on my own, and then I'm going to once again try to brave the first Dark Tower book. Maybe the book on tape will be more painless, we'll see. And I wanna hear the book on tape of Insomnia, if only for the morbid interest in hearing it read by Eli Wallach (!!!). "Hey, Crimson King! You know what you are?! Just a dirty sonofayeeayyeeayyyeee, wah wah wah..."
Just when I should be getting back to reading actual schoolwork, dicechan started to read Terry Goodkind's "Wizard's First Rule," to me, and Godpound it, I am intrigued. Unfortunately, she took the book with her, so I'm stuck until next time I see her.
But no matter. All is well, all is well, and all manner've things'll be well. Right here and now.
(Meantime, in the geek-mind: "Harry Potter. Tim Hunter. Jack Sawyer. Who would win in a fight? GO!")
