thehefner: (Bub and Johnny Go)
[personal profile] thehefner
1.) As many of you know, in August at the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, there will be a production of Brecht's "Galileo", starring Howard Sherman, AKA "Bub the Zombie" from Day of the Dead and the forthcoming Bub and Johnny Go. Well, of course I'm going to drive up there with whatever peeps wanna tag along, and of course I'm gonna get him to autograph my DVD of DOTD. But y'know, maybe I borrow a friend's decent camera, assuming one of the friends who comes along doesn't have one. And I should see the show in a tux. And then, oh and then afterwards, when I get his autograph, I'll get my picture taken with him. And I will have actual photographic proof of Bub and Johnny Go together. Yes, it must be done. I must get that picture. Because MS Paint can only do so much!

2.) Jesus Christ, but Stargate and Stargate: Atlantis are boring fucking shows. I just don't get the popularity of these things! They're just so bland and dry and humorless and the characters are just so stiff and lifeless, and it just reeks of self-important, lifeless, pretentious sci-fi. They canceled Farscape for this?? I mean, I haven't even seen Firefly, but I'm like, that got canceled and THIS gets a spinoff? This show is like what "normal" people would use as proof for the tastelessness of geeks! Sorry, no offense intended to fans of the show(s), but Jesus Christ. I just don't fucking get it. Conversely, I just saw the first five minutes of the new Battlestar Galactaca, and even knowing absolutely nothing about that show, those first five minutes were immeasurably more interesting than thirty of Stargate's.

3.) SONGS YOU MUST LISTEN TO/DOWNLOAD RIGHT NOW: the first three songs from the 6ths' (a band formed by Stephen Merrit of the Magnetic Fields, with guest singers) album "Hyacinths and Thistles"... these first three songs are a perfect, beautiful trilogy of sad little lost love songs. The songs are "As You Turn to Go," followed by "Give me back my dreams," and end with "He Didn't" sung beautifully by Bob "Husker frickin' Du" Mould. I remember I first listened to these three when I got back to WAC on my senior year. Y'know, uncertain-Misty, still-getting-over-Tammy period. And even now, the songs still resonate so much. They're so sweet and sad and tender. Please, seek these songs out. They're all finally available for download on iTunes. Don't get the whole album, just these songs. I'll even make you a CD mix if you'd like. I just don't want to be the only one listening to these that I know.

4.) Who wants to do movies with me this Wednesday and/or Thursday? The AFI is doing a Sergio Leone retrospective with a special Q&A session by a Leone historian. Wednesday night, they're playing what may still be my favorite all-time movie, Once Upon a Time in the West. And Thursday, they're playing what many consider to be the greatest mob movie of all time, Once Upon a Time in America, finally in its full, uncut, 227 minute-long glory.

Anyone up for this? Anyone? I don't even know if it's sold out or anything, but my God, these are two of the greatest films I've ever seen, on the big screen, and I don't want to re-experience them alone.
