the girl

On my way to work, while I was looking for a parking space in Georgetown, I came upon a young woman in a blue hooded Georgetown sweatshirt. I had seen her walk down Prospect street before on a couple other Sundays when I'm driving up and down the town desperately trying to snag a free spot. I knew she was a comic book fan, but I'm not certain how I knew. Maybe she came into the store one day, or maybe I remembered her wearing a Scarlet Witch costume for some reason. But I had seen this girl and said nothing enough times that this time I decide the hell with it. My car parked, I walk up alongside her and we start to talking. I don't seem to pay much thought to the fact that she clearly remembered me as much as I did her.

We talk comics for awhile; she's a Marvel fan without much experience with DC Comics, but that's fine, that's great even, it meant I could introduce her to some good books out there. We talk about New Avengers a bit. I rant about how Brian Michael Bendis is a great writer, but man he desperately needs an editor who isn't afraid of him, who won't let him write an eight-part story that could easily be told in four parts. She laughs, in total agreement. We keep talking comics and having such a great time that I find I'm no longer headed for the comic shop anymore. I'm not going anywhere, I'm just walking and talking with her.

And then I know it's time to go. We stop talking for a moment and just look at one another. I'm about to ask her when I might be able to see her again, but the way she looks at me, the words never come out. She looks at me with the slight nervous smile of someone who can hardly believe that what she's been dreaming about is actually here before her eyes. Both of us content, I lean forward and we kiss.

That's when I wake up. Before I even remember the dream, I think to myself I need to get going if I'm to find a parking space in Georgetown.

I really hoped it was for real this time.

I hate when that happens, you can still hope that it's one of those precog dreams that actually happens a couple of days later

Or years, as in the case of my mother. She's had quite a number of eerily prophetic dreams come true long after the fact.

Holly has prophetic dreams sometimes. and then a year later, what she dreamt about will happen. but i'm pentacostal, i totally believe in that stuff. especially after the things i've seen.

as for your dream... i'll just tell you that i was nearly in physical pain when i read the "then i woke up".

umm.. are we getting together in the next day or so? i'm off from 8ish tonight until wednesday night.

Yeah, I work today and tomorrow in Georgetown till 7ish. What were you thinking of doing? I imagine there are a couple movies out there to be seeing, Hostel included. I feel like the only person who still hasn't seen Brokeback Mountain.

I tell you, man, I didn't write it here, but once I wrote that last line (while I was here at the comic store), I just started to break down. Thank goodness the store was empty.

sometimes you gotta just break down. no shame in it. i do whenever i can.

i have no interest in Brokeback Mountain, but i could still do Hostel.

if you want to hang out tonight, i'm off at 8ish. do you prefer movie or venting all the crap of late?

we actually could probably do both if you like.

Actually, could we do tomorrow? I have videos that need be watched and returned tonight and unless you'd like to check out the experimental Mikey Spillaine noir "Kiss of Death", then let's do movies and venting (if necessary) tomorrow.
