thehefnerMaybe I should cut back on my visits to California Tortilla. The chefs now know me as the guy who eats some in there and gets the rest to go, so they've taken to preparing my burrito cut in half, neatly arranged, with the only half wrapped up ready to go in a separate bag. Plus, they gave me a lid for my nacho cheese. They know me too well.
Thing was, I was starting to get burned out on CalTort not too long ago. As I'm a picky eater, there's only so much on any given menu that I can enjoy, and when I find something I like I tend to beat it into the ground and then find something else. And much as I loved the blackened chicken caesar burrito, it was starting to get old.
Well, anyone who's been to CalTort knows that they possess a mighty collection of sauces. And one of these sauces I've seen for years is J.T. Pappy's gator sauce. Well, after all these years, I decided "what the hell, I'll give it a try." A teeny little dab on a stray bit of tortilla, and I took a taste, finding it very odd at first. Very flavorful, tangy, a little sweet. Then I tried a little more on the burrito itself. Again, strange, and rather a contrast from the usual deliciousness.
Ever since then, I slather the damn stuff over my burritos. My gawwwd, it's SO damn good. I bought a bottle and have now been going nuts, trying to find out new and interesting foods to put it in. According to their website, you can make pizza with it by substituting it for tomato sauce. Or it can be used in making meatloaf! MMMMMM. Don't be surprised if you find me huddled in my closet, chugging back bottles of the stuff.
I suppose I need more variety in my fast food. There's just not much in the way of quick in-and-out dining that's yummy and also relatively healthy (I have to fight, FIGHT I tells ya, to resist going to the Five Guys across the street). And even if I do find such a place, I'm gonna have a bottle of Gator Sauce, just in case. The Subway club I'm having right now could certainly benefit from some.
