Anyone know anything about Vpstart Crow, the theatre company in Manassas? They any good? They're holding auditions for Chekhov's THE SEAGULL and Gary Sloan (in one of the things I neglected to recount from that most eventful day) specifically told me that I should play Konstantin. He singled that out as a "must" role for me, presumably for my appropriateness/abilities/experience, etc.

Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] icewolf010, a couple weeks ago you wondered if anyone thought My Super Ex-Girlfriend was a good idea. I now have a possible answer: Eddie Izzard, who is in the cast but has been sadly absent from the trailers. Trailers which have blown, literally and figuratively, yet his presence, coupled with the fact that Ivan Reitman is directing, almost makes me want to see it.

Almost. Hell, I hardly ever go out to the movies I actually want to see anymore.

That is a tempting combination! *loves Eddie, needs to watch D2K or Definite Article again*

talk to [profile] tazira and [profile] tompurdue about the Crows. They had a lot to say after seeing their production of Ceasar a few months ago. I haven't heard great things, but I suppose it depends on the show and the director .... plus it's a commute.

Good luck!

Well, the commute is a bitch.

The shows I've seen there have been uneven. Cyrano was ok but not great. Christmas Carol was the same as every other Christmas Carol put on by community theater. Other shows have been much, much worse.

Basically, think of them as community theater, even though they're nominally professional. Whether you want to go do the job has more to do with the director than the company. Go to auditions, meet the director, and audition him. Not audition _for_ him: audition him. Talk to him, see if you think he's any good. If he is, and if you can hack the commute, do it.

Oh, one last thing: I hear rumors that they used to be better, but that they told their RenFest crew to pick one or the other, and most of the Festies chose the Fest. That cost them a lot of talent.

This is twelfth-hand, but it jives with what I've seen.

Good advice. I shall do just that, and afterwards, gauge if everything, particularly the commute, is worth it.

I don't know but I been told....

When the people from the Rennfaire used to rrun the place it was great. Tim would use First Folio texts and direct like a madman. But since this new group ousted them rumor has it that it blows monkey chunks.

I don't know, they have website, might wanna check it out.

Yeah, I found out about that when I read the spoiler for the movie.

(BTW: If I wasn't seeing it before, I'm really not seeing it now. Blech.)

I maintain that Eddie just needed a mortgage payment for his villa in Rome.

Ciao!

(I will make my contribution to said villa by hunting down a Region 1 copy of Sexie.)

Dude, I don't know if I've ever mentioned this to you, but ever since getting in depth with Chekhov I've had you cast as konstantin in my mind. you kind of are konstantin. Like literally, working on that play was kind of like playing with a story about you. Except for the whole ending in suicide thing.

That said, it's a really really fucking hard role to do well. I'd call it as challenging as playing Hamlet. So good luck to you if you end up getting cast, cause you're gonna have a lot of (awesome) work ahead of you.
