I'm covered in beeeeeeeeees!
Jul. 17th, 2006 11:12 pmAnyone know anything about Vpstart Crow, the theatre company in Manassas? They any good? They're holding auditions for Chekhov's THE SEAGULL and Gary Sloan (in one of the things I neglected to recount from that most eventful day) specifically told me that I should play Konstantin. He singled that out as a "must" role for me, presumably for my appropriateness/abilities/experience, etc.
Oh, and
icewolf010, a couple weeks ago you wondered if anyone thought My Super Ex-Girlfriend was a good idea. I now have a possible answer: Eddie Izzard, who is in the cast but has been sadly absent from the trailers. Trailers which have blown, literally and figuratively, yet his presence, coupled with the fact that Ivan Reitman is directing, almost makes me want to see it.
Almost. Hell, I hardly ever go out to the movies I actually want to see anymore.

Date: 2006-07-18 04:39 pm (UTC)The shows I've seen there have been uneven. Cyrano was ok but not great. Christmas Carol was the same as every other Christmas Carol put on by community theater. Other shows have been much, much worse.
Basically, think of them as community theater, even though they're nominally professional. Whether you want to go do the job has more to do with the director than the company. Go to auditions, meet the director, and audition him. Not audition _for_ him: audition him. Talk to him, see if you think he's any good. If he is, and if you can hack the commute, do it.

I maintain that Eddie just needed a mortgage payment for his villa in Rome.
Ciao!
(I will make my contribution to said villa by hunting down a Region 1 copy of Sexie.)

Date: 2006-07-19 12:16 am (UTC)That said, it's a really really fucking hard role to do well. I'd call it as challenging as playing Hamlet. So good luck to you if you end up getting cast, cause you're gonna have a lot of (awesome) work ahead of you.
