So in discussing my previous entry, [livejournal.com profile] holli and I came up with an absolutely *brilliant* idea to do at next year's Renaissance Festival. It's such a brilliant idea that I hope no one has thought of this before... or at least, not to the extent that we have. This is to be done with a group of friends, at least one of whom has to film it all.

First, you send in one person dressed from head to toe in perfect, normal Ren Fest type gear, just like a typical guy in costume... but made up to look like Data from Star Trek. Then after awhile, you send in a second group in full Starfleet uniforms who will walk around the Festival grounds examining their surroundings, muttering about the "Prime Directive," and remarking on things like, "This holodeck program appears to be malfunctioning. Macaroni had not been imported to England during the Renaissance, nor was it served on a stick. And not a single person is covered in fecal matter!"

Then when they catch up with Data, they'll say, "There you are, Data! We're your rescue team! We thought he'd lost you forever when the holodeck malfunctioned again! And what *are* you wearing?" "I am blending in." And so on.

The best thing would to actually come up with a real storyline and film the whole thing. I'm not sure what else could be done... I think I heard about Klingons going to the Faire before... hey, maybe EVIL LINCOLN? Any other ideas?

I am totally up for this. It must be done.

It occurs to me that most of our brilliant ideas have to do with the Renaissance Festival; remember, that's also our fallback location in the event of zombie apocalypse.

I got 'yer story line right here!

In it, the crew discovers a planet on which the Preservers tried to protect a plague-ridden medieval community. And where better to put them than a planet that fits their mythology? After all, people + dragons = OMG! OTP!

I haven't read all the ST:TNG books, but I still think this must be one of the best. It's fantastic and prices start at .01 on Amazon!

[livejournal.com profile] 777666 strongly chastised me for that idea, pointing out that the walls are too flimsy, thereby ruining our brilliant idea! I still maintain that it's the perfect place to be... once the walls are fortified enough. In the meantime, she suggests Greenbelt, MD, which is littered with fallout shelters everywhere.

You know, as soon as I read his post I remembered that story and wondered if I could find it in my unpacked boxes of books to share the blurb of. :3 I'm glad you were faster on the draw, I am feeling uninclined to get lost in the book room tonight.

huh. I did not know that! My alternate location was actually the Costco in Greenbelt, since we'd be well-provisioned there.

Is it sad that I actually evaluate locations in terms of their zombie preparedness?

Yes, but now I want to read it again. And it's part of the 90% of my books that I left at home in Ohio! D'oh!

What good is global dominion a kick-ass library if you live in a different state?

At first I read that and went, "Oh yeah, that'd be perfect!" and then I realized that the principle is kinda the same as a shopping mall. "Whuh oh." Just, y'know, if we can avoid the same mistakes made by those in DAWN OF THE DEAD, we might be fine. Unless, of course, the biker horde comes by to break in and steal our stuff... then we're screwed.

Not sad at all. Hell, read Max (son of Mel) Brooks' ZOMBIE SURVIVAL GUIDE and his latest WORLD WAR Z!

Ensign Ro Laren, the Bajoran chicky who had the UST with Riker for a while there, just when he and Deanna were sorta semi getting together again. Very good friends with Guinan. Ended up taking off with Thomas Riker and rebelling against the Federation. I think they might have tried to steal the Defiant from Sisco to give to the Makai, but that episode is fuzzy in my brain since I watched it with my mother, who does not shut up just because the TV is on, but also doesn't talk about what you're watching. (Very annoying.)

She was turned into a kid that time with Picard, Guinan, and Keiko O'Brian, and there was always this big deal about whether she could wear her earring thing.

That is a CrazyGoNuts awesome idea. Do you have anyone willing to be a Klingon in medieval garb, too?

I am sad to say that according to some of my sources who have been working the Faire for years, people have been showing up as part of an "away team exploring a primitive culture" for years. And it really bugs a lot of the staff.

It sounds, however, like you've at least come up with a good storyline for why they're there.

My friend who worked the Faire said what he loved doing to these away teams was going over to them in his full Renn garb and saying "I've got a priority one message from Starfleet. They'd like to know what the hell you think you're doing breaking the prime directive by appearing in Star Fleet uniform."

Aye, I think it was tazira who told me that she'd seen Klingons there before, and to hear starfleet members going there already doesn't surprise me in the least.

But yeah, if we can get a real story going, it'd be brilliant. Especially if we can do it with minimal pissing off of the staff... unless our performers are gifted enough to deal with them in character.

Heh heh, yeah, that very episode actually occured to me later! God, I love it. As long as we don't instigate a whole borg invasion to storm the grounds, that should be fine.

Now, a zombie invasion, on the other hand...

Commenting for two reasons:

1) So freaking awesome I can't even muster up a coherent, creative way to say it's awesome. (Fantasmagorical, maybe? Except then I start wondering if it's spelled Ph-.)

2) I was way more surprised than I should have been to hear that you know [livejournal.com profile] holli! We used to hang in the same IRC chat forever and a day ago. Ah, lj makes a small world even smaller.

It totally does! Small internet, anyway. Yeah, she and I have hung out several times. We're movie buddies.

Well, that is just generally awesome. I love looking at 'net social circles.
