New SPIDER-MAN 3 trailer.

Oh holy bejabbers mother of fuck.

And adding to the surrealness of today, Alan Moore to guest-star on THE SIMPSONS

Looks nice.

One of these days I'll sit down and watch the first two films. Just never got around to it yet.

Number one... is well-intentioned, and gets enough of it right to make it good, but the flaws bug me more and more each time. I really have little to no interest to watch it anymore.

Number two, on the other hand... just might be my very favorite superhero movie of all time. The kinks are pretty well all worked out, the performances are superior (I love Dafoe, but Molina's performance is something else entirely), and these are perhaps the greatest fight scenes ever committed to film (EQUILIBRIUM being its own ballpark, I think).

The main flaw of both movies is the perpretually-stoned (or sure seems that way) Miss Dunst.

Um, maybe we can do a movie night, I dunno.

So they've hit Doc Ock, Green Goblin, and Venom. As far as I can tell that's the big three villains in the Spider-Man universe. Where do you think they're going to go next? There are plenty of others available, but none with the same fire-power (emotionally speaking).

I saw it last night, it seems delicious.

It really does.

I must watch the entirety of Spidey 2....

OH!!! On another note entirely please save me a copy of Iron Fist #1 (as espoused by Kali921)Vicini said to go back to the beginning.
So here I am...
Back at the beginning.

Well, the future of the movies will be interesting, since I don't think Maguire, Dunst, or even Raimi are up for a part 4. But of course, time and money will tell.

As for other villains or storylines, that's a very good question. One possibility that comes to mind is the very darkest Spider-Man story, "Kraven's Last Hunt," about a b-list villian who decides to retire by "killing" Spider-Man. He defeats Spider-Man, shoots him with tranquilizers, buries him alive (in a coma), and takes his place. After an internal mental battle, Spider-Man wakes up and crawls out of his grave. It's a powerful story, if only for how bloody dark it is for that particular character.

There's also the Black Cat, who's essentially his version of Catwoman (only I think a tad more wild) as villain/love interest. And hey, there's the Kingpin. Oh yes, there very much is the Kingpin. Michael Clarke Duncan could easily reprise the role, and I think he was actually good for it, but oh yeah, Kingpin is very much a big villain. And there's also Scorpion, a villain who was basically created by J. Jonah Jameson himself, so that's ample for movie-length conflict right there. And there's the Hobgoblin too, but that could go any number of ways.

And, most importantly, there's the death of Gwen Stacy. And the death of her father, Captain Stacy. We'll see if both or either will be explored in part 3 first. If not, then ohh yes, there you go. Even without a Green Goblin, it could still be done.

And also, in the comics, Norman Osborn came back from the dead. Which, if done as effectively as it has been in the comics, could really work. (Also, I am in such denial that I still want to believe Doc Ock's arms pulled him out of the water and brought him back to life somewhere...)

Sandman and even Doc Ock (to an extent) don't have the inherent emotional impact, but that's up to the script for the movie to find. They did it beautifully with Ock, and it looks like they've found a very real place of relevance for Sandman (as opposed to just a bank robber who can turn into sand).

Yes, you must see 2 sometime!

I believe I can do that. But how would you get it? Come down to Bethesda/Georgetown?

hmmm, Alas I shall have to wait until after Christmas.

But since I no longer smoke I shall at least be able to afford comic books!

I am thinking about eventually owning my favorite issue of Sandman with the author raping Calliope...but I am not ready to commit.

Iron Fist let me know as soon as it is available, for other stuff after Christmas, when I will be so poor it won't matter if I buy a comic book.

The best thing Spider-Man 3 is offering is the first SM movie villian(s) whose powers don't revolve around gadgets and technology. In the trailer you can see some fun Sandman effects and we can only hope that Venom does wonderful things. However Hobgoblin or whatever Harry will call himself looks rather lame and I hope he gets knocked out of the film quickly.

In fairness, we haven't actually seen what Harry as Green Goblin 2.0 looks like in full body shot (or with the mask). I think we can count on Harry having a complex and possibly redemptive storyline.

This movie might be the first time in fifteen years I've given a thrupenny fuck about Venom. And seriously, I think Sandman is absolutely perfect, from the costume to the visual use of powers to the hair!

The Sandman AND the symbiote AND Harry finding out? Cool!

(Or maybe Harry finds out in the second movie, I haven't sene it yet.)

Not gonna spoil stuff, but yeah. you so gotta see the second one! It's so brilliant! Far superior to the first!

Sadly, I have never seen the second half of the first movie.

ehhh, have you read the comics? Do you know Norman Osborn's fate? Do you think Spidey would allow himself to be with MJ at the end? That's all you need to know. Just watch part 2! As a comic reader, I'm confident you'll be fine.

Well, in that case... :) I'll see if I can't rent it sometime soon.

Definitely do. I think it might well be my favorite superhero movie ever. Even with the presence of the perpetually stoned Miss Dunst. OPEN YOUR EYES, WOMAN!

Thomas Church as Sandman was a complete left hook I didn't see coming. I've liked him since fucking WINGS was on tv where he played this half-retarded comic relief airplane mechanic, and then had this short lived sitcom with that lady from will and grace...anyway when I found out he was in it I was expecting one of the more cunning mastermind villains for him so I can't wait to see him as a tough guy.

This is the image of Harry I saw that made my opinion:
Image
Unless he has a different costume later that just makes me think Paintballer on a Hoverboard.

From: [identity profile] thehefner.livejournal.com
My goodness, that costume is abhorrent. Maybe they were trying to avoid the Power Ranger Warrior look that Dafoe wore, but wow, this... it just makes me want to smack Harry even more.

Thankfully, I'm guessing Black Suit Spidey will do that for us.

Having not watched Wings, I've come to appreciate Church in THE SPECIALS. But god DAMN he just looks and sounds absolutely perfect as Flint!

I really liked the Goblin from the first SM movie. Although it raised the question where the hell did he get that Goblin helmet from? The armor and glider I liked though since I think it would look silly to wear the comic's Halloween costume.

Aye, that I have. I am mightily intrigued, although I started to get a little eye-rolly when Butler decided to SHOUT YET ANOTHER TIME, especially when they are lines that weren't shouted in the comic (and would seem to sound more badass that way, but we'll see how all the shouty-lines will play in context).
