movie tidbits
Jan. 3rd, 2007 03:15 pmEPIC MOVIE looks terrible. Utterly terrible, not surprisingly. However, it has Kids In the Hall's Kevin McDonald as Harry Potter and Crispin Glover as Willy Wonka.
Let me repeat that: Kevin McDonald as Harry Potter and Crispin Glover as Willy Wonka.
I am there.
So the good news is that I wasn't the only one who thought Hugh Jackman would be a good choice for Harvey Dent in the upcoming Batman sequel THE DARK KNIGHT. The bad news is that it ain't gonna happen. Yes, they're talking about "unconventional" casting for him, just like Heath Ledger as the Joker. None of these decisions fill me with confidence, to say the fucking least.
However, Nolan wowed us before. So I will be very, very, very interested to see what he's doing. I want to like it. But so far, I'm very worried.
But as least I have a boss new Harvey Dent icon.
Finally, this trailer reminds me of Peter Jackson's glory days with a touch of SHAUN OF THE DEAD and DOG SOLDIERS, just turned to the absurd maximum. Also, the fact that it's being produced by Mel Gibson's Icon Production company only solidifies the glorious surrealism of this film. I cannot wait to see this. Cannot wait.
BLACK SHEEP.
Zombie. Sheep. Motherfuckers.

Date: 2007-01-03 09:47 pm (UTC)(Note: I may be the only male on the planet who doesn't get The Kids In The Hall. It's like Monty Python, without the jokes that worked. I'm not sure I've ever laughed at it. Improv comedy != sketch comedy.)
These guys have so much of the late Mel Brooks syndrome, where they plan out about six good jokes and figure the rest of the movie will take care of itself. Oh, for the Zucker-Abrams-Zucker glory days, when all of the jokes were just sitting there on the ground, waiting to be picked up.

Date: 2007-01-03 09:52 pm (UTC)Lord knows Kids In The Hall isn't for everyone, but I'm rather surprised to hear you don't get it. Then again, I'm the only person in the entire world who doesn't find Homestar Runner funny. At all. Still, it's too bad. Not even the Dr. Seuss Bible sketch? Or the Pit of Ultimate Darkness sketches?
I was just watching Airplane! again and marveling at how wonderful it all was. Top Secret! and the Naked Gun trilogy, even Kentucky Fried Movie have so much more wit and style (in their fashion) than these current parody movies.

Date: 2007-01-03 10:00 pm (UTC)I haven't seen the two Kids sketches you mentioned. Maybe it's exactly like Monty Python's Flying Circus: the gags that work are so wildly successful that they make up for the fact that the mass of most episodes is mediocre or worse.
I've always wondered if they knew at the time that "spam" or the the dead parrot sketch would be real winners. I can just see them sitting around saying, "Hey, Sketch X is really more or less the same gag as Sketch Y, why is it that people make t-shirts with quotes from one but not the other?"

Date: 2007-01-05 09:20 pm (UTC)i dont think there was anything wrong with the Batman Begins costume.. so i tend to have nightmares of Joel Schumaker when i hear things like this.
but they are going sleeker, and more cloth..so maybe it wont be bad.
