I've always taken a cue from what Garth Ennis wrote in HELLBLAZER: "Regrets aren't worth a bugger." I've always felt like there's no point dwelling on what one did or didn't do, and I still feel that way. I've had no real regrets over anything as far as I can recall, not for any of the crap I've gone through.

And yet, for the first time since I can remember, my mind is reeling over "what ifs" and "if onlys" and I don't know if they'll stop anytime soon. And it sucks. I have no great Hefner Monologue-ian insight right now. It just blows. And I'm starting to figure out that there's not a damn thing anyone can do or say.

Damn it.

Yeah, it's good quality middle-of-winter gray-overcast melancholia. The days will get longer (they are already) and that'll help.

You know what's the funny thing about that? That's exactly one of the catalysts of this situation, but it's not a problem for *me* personally. With my pale skin, I actually LOVE days like this! Still, I don't suppose it makes the bad days feel any better either.

Nope. That's the thing with depression of any sort: no amount of explanation and rationality makes it go away. "Count your blessings" is usually crappy advice; it irritates the advisee and just adds to the depression.

The only power you get out of this knowledge is to know, intellectually, that it will get better when the weather does, and so you have the opportunity to double-check any stupid plans you might make.
