Death is the Road to Awe
Feb. 19th, 2007 01:20 amWill the Zoo even be open tomorrow? It's that time again, the time to find an animal for my second class pantomime. If it's even open what the hell am I going to find? Maybe something in the reptile house? Gah.
For the past three days, I've pretty much been listening to the soundtrack to THE FOUNTAIN on a continuous non-stop loop. It reminds me a lot of a Michael Nyman score: the utter beauty of GATTACA mixed with the obsessive beauty of THE PIANO.
My Harvey Dent/Renee Montoya retrospective is now up at
scans_daily, for those of you who are interested (
bloo_mountain, particularly).
Finally, I just uncovered an old gem from a drama class in my senior year of college. We were studying Ibsen, Chekhov, and Strindberg, and I had come up with a little title to call these three godfathers of realism. The ever-wonderful Liam seemed to get a real kick out of my idea and took it to heart, making this:

Classic, man. Just classic. Definitely click to see a larger version. Strindberg's totally bugfuck-crazy eyes are what really sell the whole thing.

Date: 2007-02-19 06:54 am (UTC)But can I just post about it LJ and give you mad props? Assuming, of course, the day does indeed turn out to be a lovely adventure. At least now I'll be going with a bit more optimism than I was previously.
The S_D entry:
Date: 2007-02-19 08:24 am (UTC)In that first set of scans, they way Harvey was drawn with the dark blond hair and the jawline...he looks like Aaron Eckhart. Seriously, it's a little creepy. I wonder if Nolan & co. read No Man's Land when working on casting Dark Knight. Renee looks hideous in those scans though, which is a pity. I do like the way Two-Face's speech bubbles are drawn during the flashlight scene though.
I like the idea of Two-Face being bi myself. The guy flips a coin to decide everything else, why not when it comes to figuring out on what end of the Kinsey scale he falls? ;) Btw, has he appeared in 52 at all yet?
*Generally when it comes to pairing I do so based on character interactions and the general dynamic the two characters (or in some cases more than two characters) have together, and take a "bi until proven otherwise" interpretation towards canon. :P (or rather, I view sexuality as fluid IRL and tend to approach it that way with fannish things as well. I think very few people are 100% straight or gay) However, when it comes to pairing a canon gay/lesbian character with someone of the opposite sex it can be tricky due to some IRL issues (such as the Ex-Gay movement, among others). Sadly, it isn't fair, but maybe in fifty years we as a society will have put that crap behind us. However, in my experience most fannish people don't really care as long as the fic is written well and is IC.

But no, even though I'm fairly certain it's Greg Rucka writing the Renee/Question scenes, we haven't seen a peep from Harvey. In fact, I think DC editorial had completely forgotten that he was the one defending the city, but in 52, it's all Batwoman Batwoman Batwoman.

Tch. Granted, last I heard the Renee/Question storyline had taken them away from Gotham, but for them to apparently forget about Harvey is annoying. Having him meet Batwomen could have been really interesting too. Maybe if Renee does become the Question (which is pretty much going to happen I suppose) we'll see a face-off (sorry) or better yet, an interesting team-up between the two of them in the future.
(also, where's your icon from?)
Re: The S_D entry:
Date: 2007-02-20 12:18 am (UTC)That icon, and this icon, are from the film IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS, directed by John Carpenter and starring Sam Neill. That above scene is one of my favorites of the film, but I suspect you may have to see it for yourself for the full effect.

Ah, gotcha. Was this the Lovecraft-inspired horror movie, or am I thinking about something else?
Re: The S_D entry:

Yes, I will definitely be on the lookout for them, rest assured. And aye, it is indeed the Lovecraft-inspired film. It's worth watching both for the dark sense of humor and for Sam Neill awesomeness.
