Will the Zoo even be open tomorrow? It's that time again, the time to find an animal for my second class pantomime. If it's even open what the hell am I going to find? Maybe something in the reptile house? Gah.

For the past three days, I've pretty much been listening to the soundtrack to THE FOUNTAIN on a continuous non-stop loop. It reminds me a lot of a Michael Nyman score: the utter beauty of GATTACA mixed with the obsessive beauty of THE PIANO.

My Harvey Dent/Renee Montoya retrospective is now up at [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily, for those of you who are interested ([livejournal.com profile] bloo_mountain, particularly).

Finally, I just uncovered an old gem from a drama class in my senior year of college. We were studying Ibsen, Chekhov, and Strindberg, and I had come up with a little title to call these three godfathers of realism. The ever-wonderful Liam seemed to get a real kick out of my idea and took it to heart, making this:

Classic, man. Just classic. Definitely click to see a larger version. Strindberg's totally bugfuck-crazy eyes are what really sell the whole thing.

Yes the Zoo will be open. They open at 7. Go very early before hoardes of screeching children and an obstacle course of baby carriages makes the place miserable. Animals are also more active early. If it's very cold, many of the animals from warmer climates will not be on view. Take the Metro, make the nice brisk healthy walk, stop at the Starbucks across the street from the Zoo entrance for a well-earned cup of something warm & comforting to wrap your hands around, and go the the Zoo. Buy a postcard of Tai Shan or a cat of some sort, or otters, I like them too, and send it to me and tell me what a wonderful time you had at the Zoo!

Man, the way you describe it, perhaps I'll actually make more of a day of it than I did the last time I went for an acting pantomime. Sounds fun!

But can I just post about it LJ and give you mad props? Assuming, of course, the day does indeed turn out to be a lovely adventure. At least now I'll be going with a bit more optimism than I was previously.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who likes the idea of Two-Face/Renee. It would be a relationship with loads of issues (even leaving aside the lesbian thing*) and certainly not very healthy, but I'm a fan of those. ;) (only in fiction of course!) The birthday scene was awfully sweet though, especially the part with Bruce acting as a go-between.

In that first set of scans, they way Harvey was drawn with the dark blond hair and the jawline...he looks like Aaron Eckhart. Seriously, it's a little creepy. I wonder if Nolan & co. read No Man's Land when working on casting Dark Knight. Renee looks hideous in those scans though, which is a pity. I do like the way Two-Face's speech bubbles are drawn during the flashlight scene though.

I like the idea of Two-Face being bi myself. The guy flips a coin to decide everything else, why not when it comes to figuring out on what end of the Kinsey scale he falls? ;) Btw, has he appeared in 52 at all yet?

*Generally when it comes to pairing I do so based on character interactions and the general dynamic the two characters (or in some cases more than two characters) have together, and take a "bi until proven otherwise" interpretation towards canon. :P (or rather, I view sexuality as fluid IRL and tend to approach it that way with fannish things as well. I think very few people are 100% straight or gay) However, when it comes to pairing a canon gay/lesbian character with someone of the opposite sex it can be tricky due to some IRL issues (such as the Ex-Gay movement, among others). Sadly, it isn't fair, but maybe in fifty years we as a society will have put that crap behind us. However, in my experience most fannish people don't really care as long as the fic is written well and is IC.

The man on the right, whichever one he is, reminds me of Bowie's Tesla in The Prestige

Very nice. Never seen them all put together like that! Makes an interesting collage.

Loads of issues, thus leading to loads of drama, thus leading to great stories for us! Phase three is profit!

I was just thinking of an issue of [livejournal.com profile] evandorkin's wonderful series DORK!, which has a series each issue called "How to Get Sued!" In this one, it shows Two-Face standing in a red light district, his coin in his hand, declaring, "Tails! Tonight, Harvey Dent fucks MEN!"

But no, even though I'm fairly certain it's Greg Rucka writing the Renee/Question scenes, we haven't seen a peep from Harvey. In fact, I think DC editorial had completely forgotten that he was the one defending the city, but in 52, it's all Batwoman Batwoman Batwoman.

That would be August Strindberg, known to most of our generation as the star of the webtoon SRTINDBERG AND HELIUM.

But I don't recall Tesla having the bugfuck crazy eyes. ;p

I look forward to reading your report! I forgot to mention the small mammal house as a great refuge when you get cold--it's warm & there are very cute furry things on display. Also, I have twice stopped by to try & see the sloth bears, and they were always hiding. Let me know if you spotted them!

Okay, that almost made me choke on my cornflakes. Please tell me you have that issue, and are willing to scan it? *bambi eyes*

Tch. Granted, last I heard the Renee/Question storyline had taken them away from Gotham, but for them to apparently forget about Harvey is annoying. Having him meet Batwomen could have been really interesting too. Maybe if Renee does become the Question (which is pretty much going to happen I suppose) we'll see a face-off (sorry) or better yet, an interesting team-up between the two of them in the future.

(also, where's your icon from?)

I will do my damndest to dig it out, rest assured. DORK! is made of awesomeness.

That icon, and this icon, are from the film IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS, directed by John Carpenter and starring Sam Neill. That above scene is one of my favorites of the film, but I suspect you may have to see it for yourself for the full effect.

Yay! Thanks in advance, I have a feeling I might wind up making some icons if you do find it.

Ah, gotcha. Was this the Lovecraft-inspired horror movie, or am I thinking about something else?

Hee! They're black and white, so unless you'd be interested in coloring them...

Another "How To Get Sued" featured a Timm-esque Batman deep in thought, thinking, "Man, I wanna fuck Catwoman so BAD..."

Yes, I will definitely be on the lookout for them, rest assured. And aye, it is indeed the Lovecraft-inspired film. It's worth watching both for the dark sense of humor and for Sam Neill awesomeness.
