and what we have here... is a dead shark.
Jun. 18th, 2007 10:01 amBehind-the-scenes spy photos of Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent. People are already speculating as to why he happens to be wearing a lavender tie. Oh please please please, Nolan and company, please don't make Harvey Dent secretly working for the Joker or something. Please let it just be foreshadowing for his penchant for bad suits, but not that. If I'm hoping for anything above all else in THE DARK KNIGHT, it's that Harvey's a genuinely good guy before his downfall, not a corrupt government official in the first place.
Oh God, I can see them doing that too, as some clever way to play off the whole "two-faced" thing. I still recoil in horror when I think about how Christopher Walken's character in BATMAN RETURNS was originally going to be Harvey.
... man, what a world, when my entire day can be ruined because of the color of a tie.
Speaking of getting the characters right and the color purple, here's an open note to the makers of FANTASTIC FOUR 2: GALACTUS, MOTHERFUCKERS.
I start my day with watching FRASIER reruns (on Lifetime, running right after GOLDEN GIRLS, God I feel dirty), and I've come to the conclusion that Bebe Neuwirth's depiction of Frasier's ex-wife Dr. Lilith Sternin is exactly the kind of woman I need to watch out for. I can so easily see myself getting involved with and falling for Lilith, and she would utterly destroy me. A brilliant, attractive, dryly witty, sarcastic, caustic, tightly-wound control freak with sociopathic tendencies. If I see a Lilith in real life, I must avoid at all costs. But I probably won't.
Also, Brenda from SIX FEET UNDER. Two archetypal Heffie-traps if ever I've seen 'em.
So I finally saw LETHAL WEAPON. I gotta say, maybe it because I didn't see it when it came out, but so far it's my least favorite Shane Black movie. I'll easily take KISS KISS BANG BANG, MONSTER SQUAD, and THE LAST BOY SCOUT over this any day. Still good, but not nearly as much banter as I'd come to expect from the film that made Black famous.
Y'know, I must somehow end up watching ANNIE HALL every couple years, and each time, it rings more and more true. I think if ever there was a movie that was purely, truly Hefnerian, it's ANNIE HALL. If anyone wants to really understand how my mind works, and if they don't want to read my book or see my show, they need to watch ANNIE HALL.

Date: 2007-06-18 04:24 pm (UTC)... maybe Hefnerian is something else entirely, akin to Jewish and Catholic neuroses, but very much its own thing.

BODY BLOW OF FACT!
