thehefner: (Bub and Johnny Go)

Even with a stuffy head, slight fever, stuffed/dripping nose, sore throat, and the occasional dizzy spell, I'm STILL performing tonight, gol dang it. It's just a question of what the hell am I going to do with myself until this evening rolls around. Brain not working too brain.

Saw my seventh Fringe show last night, EDDIE LOUNGE: LORD OF THE LOUNGE TOUR, a comedy variety show of lounge-ified modern pop songs and skits. Definitely a crowd-pleaser, a fun, good-natured, and rather gentle show. Not at all what JOHNNY GO would do, if given the chance (which is a bit like giving a PCP-spiked macaroon to the Cookie Monster).

Speaking of cookies, I finally took the chance and bought a couple Liz Lovely vegan cookies, which are prominently displayed at the local co-op. In my experience, vegan cookies taste like dried cardboard, but these are actually pretty darn good. I mean, the chocolate chip cookies at frickin' McDonald's taste better, like real cookies should taste, but these ain't bad at all. Still, it's insane how frickin' crazy high in fat vegan cookies are. For two cookies, that 840 calories, 320 of which is from fat. Yipes.

Hmm... now that Johnny's been given a taste of the stage, my mind is reeling over the possibilities. I wonder how much I'd have to pay and/or drug Howard Sherman to go on tour with me?

I will be there tonight! Score one for my schedule-reading skills. [livejournal.com profile] scarydavedc is still up in the air. His attendance depends on how late he leaves work and how tired he is.

Something that might help with your stuffy head and dizziness (likely from congestion and not from hanging out with too many theater geeks :-)): boil water, put water in bowl, put towel over head, put head over bowl, inhale. If you have eucalyptus oil, put a drop or two (no more or you'll be unhappy) into the water after you pour it in the bowl. It's an excellent stop gap measure til you can rest. Drink plenty of fluids and call me in the morning if you even remember who I am :-).

I second this.

Also: Netti pot.

I almost drowned myself with a Netti pot once :-). I'm sure one gets used to it, but not when you're running in circles making noises like a dying giraffe.

Yeah, eggs... they're just so wonderful for baking. They're impossible to really replace. You can pour in a bunch of vegetable oil and some xanthan gum, but it's just not the same.

Do I really need to buy a ticket in advance (and pay the $3 "convenience" fee)?

Although dying-giraffe noises are amusing to the rest of us. ;)

Prrrrrobably not, assuming you arrive a half hour early or so. I still don't know how to look up to find how many tickets we've sold.

I can arrive as early as you want, I work downtown. I'm just going to metro over, buy a ticket, and wander down the road for a bite of dinner.

btw... finished off the Sandman books, and i appear to be all out of your comics.

we're in the new place now, a block from the drafthouse.

thoughts?

From: [identity profile] thehefner.livejournal.com
Why, this is a situation that must be promptly rectified. With STARMAN.

There's nothing playing at the Drafthouse that I especially care to see right now, but that doesn't mean that we can't or shouldn't hang out sometime soon. My evenings are free, but I'm working a lot, so I can't be out and about too late for the next few days.

Like I said, my evenings are free. I mean, I'm hoping to have a date in the nearish future, so I certainly don't want to miss that. But generally, I'm totally free and clear any time except next Saturday.

From: [identity profile] thehefner.livejournal.com
Nope, but I will be cleaning out Dad's house with Mom at some point. Not sure when. Probably afternoon to early evening. I could make certain to be done by enough time to pick you up.

word up.

if you are working between now and then, do you think you could pick up a few issues for me? it seems there is no LCS near my new apartment.

is Nova #4 the one that ended with a female Nova, or was that #3? if that was #3, then i need #4.

i need Quasar #1, Starlord #1, Silver Surfer: Requiem #3, and i think that's it.

if you can't grab them, i understand. but if you can, awesome.

so how is the clearing out of your dad's place going?

That was Nova # 4 that ended with female Nova.

I got Quasar, Starlord, and SS Requiem for ya!

The clearing is going slowly and grossly. The smells are overpowering Mom; a cleaning lady refused to work on it when she got a whiff. We're getting there, but man oh man, we need to spray it with that smell-killing stuff they use at morgues. The whole situation is just gross beyond words, man.

i recommend some air neutralizer.. it helps a lot.

i'm so sorry, man. i had to do that for my dad's place and it was messy, emotional, and just plain HARD. and it can't be fun on your mom, either.

thanks for the books.. the lack of LCS is disturbing. the comic shop locater shows your store as the nearest to me!

From: [identity profile] thehefner.livejournal.com
It's not so bad emotionally, honestly. Not for me, anyway. Or if it is, I'm not consciously feeling it. It's much harder for Mom than anything. It's just gross and tedious more than anything else. There's virtually no ventilation in that place, and we're doing what we can to both stay cool and not choke on the stink and dust and crap.

Nya-haaa, more business for us!

From: [identity profile] spacechild.livejournal.com
well, when i had to do it i was 17 and already a really screwed-up kid, so it didnt do well for me. you're older and better prepared for facing it than i was. still, i hope for greater ease in dealing with it and for strength for your mom.

and yes, i am happy to give my business to your store, i just hate bothering you to have to pick up my comics for me.

Weirdly, it's less (conciously) stressful than going over there when he was alive. Now, if Mom weren't with me and I was doing all this alone, then I'd be depressed and stressed at least. But with her there, it's fascinating, because besides just watching her be all disturbed, I love hearing her side of so many things there (stories she'd repressed for years and years, all coming back).

Well, soon I won't be able to do it for you at all, so I guess it works out for everybody!

it sounds like this whole thing, while hard, is actually in some ways a good thing for her. i'm glad.
