I'm now seven episodes into HEROES.

The acting is terrible, the dialogue is shoddy, the rules are totally predictable to anyone who's ever read a "Flash Fact" or Warren Ellis comic, I'm incredibly sick and tired of seeing Ali Larter's front teeth, I want to shove the Log Lady up Suresh's arse anytime he goes into another pretentious and vague bit of philosophical bullshit narration, Jeph Loeb continues to bring about the downfall of all that is good art.

And I can't stop watching.

I'm totally hooked.

Yay Hiro.

Yay Hiro indeed!

And you already know who plays Hiro's father, I hope!

pee ess: the asshole I crushed on hard in college looks ALARMINGLY like Zachary Quinto. I think I told you this already, but it bears repeating.

Aye, that I do! For God's sake, girl, one of the main reasons I'm finally watching this is because it's permeated so much of geek circles that I already KNOW several twists and bits of casting (you know me, I'm holding out for Malcolm McDowell more than anything else).

Yes, and doesn't he also remind your of your ideal asshole boyfriend too?

Yeah, I kind of feel that way about the show too.

Hiro, Ando and Mr. Bennett (especially the part about Mr. Bennett ♥) more than made the entire venture worth it.

Also, I dunno: I watched Heroes with a group of people every Monday night. It's just more fun with other people around- I don't think I could actually watch it over again on my own. :P

except all the parts with Mr. Bennett. Probably

Completely agreed on Hiro, Ando, and I think Mr. Bennett too. Maybe it's just your icon giving me the association, but he reminds me of some of the more lovable bastards from THE X-FILES (oh Alex Krycek, where have you gone?) Besides them, I'm not really certain what'd keep me that interested in the show. Hiro's the only character with any real life, spirit, or heart so far, and Ando is his pivotal foil and straight man.

That said, I greatly look forward to George Takei and Malcolm McDowell. Because anything with those two can't be all bad. Oh it can be BAD, just not ALL bad. ;p

Add "...and the depiction of women makes me want to hit things" and basically your view on the show would be identical to mine. I started watching because of Christopher Eccleston and didn't, couldn't, stop. Even though the writing is crap*, there's enough there to create some characters and situations that I was interested in enough to follow from week to week like Lost, which is pretty much rare for me when it comes to TV. I have no idea if the show will be able to hold me during its second season unlike Lost.

*Oh man, wait until you get to the episode with the --spoiler alert!-- super-hearing lady. It contains the absolute worst bit of dialog in the whole show so far. Trust me, you'll know it when you hear it.

As one who's failed to really get into Harry Potter, I excuse HP in the same way as I justify my love for Stephen King's DARK TOWER: the world and the characters are so compelling that one is willing to forgive the various flaws and shortcomings. It taps into the imagination more than actually necessarily being good, necessarily (not to just make blanket statements on both series).

I'll say this, though: when Jeph Loeb actually writes an episode, I can tell, because it's just that much worse. Like in the second or third episode when Clea Duvall (dear lord, I had such a crush on her back in the day. Has she always sucked this badly?!) had the cop in the interrogation room, and she said, "So let me get this straight. You just *waltzed* on in there, and you..." JESUS FUCK, JEPH, STOP BEING TRITE.

Man, I have't even started LOST yet. I also fear for how BATTLESTAR GALACTACA supposedly goes off the rails.

Wait till Eccleston arrives and then you will see amazing acting. The guy just blows everyone else away (although Flash Gordon (HRG) does get better as the series progresses)
I love Heroes, to me it was close to perfect (not to say it has no flaws) but it did what I beleive ALL tv should do.
EXPLAIN EVERYTHING DURING THE SEASON
Lost didnt explain very much and then kept adding stuff and I just stopped watching
I havent missed it at all.
If Heroes hadnt got picked up for a second Series, then no-one would be left hanging. I think this is why it has had success.
Enjoy the ride ahead sir....its a good one

If you ever do get around to LOST, prepare for some serious frustration. I imagine it's something like blueballs. Lots of buildup and tension and crazy exciting moments, then no real release. And I love the show. I even stuck around during the immensely craptacular bits at the end of season 2 and beginning of season 3. But the whole first season is phenomenal, particularly the episode about Locke called "Walkabout" - that was some amazing writing and acting. Really, all of the episodes that focus on Locke are good, which probably has a lot to do with Terry O'Quinn (I think that's the actor's name) being the Man.

Girl, I loved X-FILES and TWIN PEAKS. I know what I'm in for. ;p

I totally have my eye out for Eccleston. I adore him. He's the Ugly Ralph Fiennes, and I say that lovingly!

And dude, word to that EXPLAIN EVERYTHING rule. Well, maybe one or two things left hanging. But seriously, like I say above? X-FILES and TWIN PEAKS (although I'm more forgiving of the latter, as they openly admitted, "We have no idea who the killer is or where this is going. Just have fun!")

I am not planning on watching that show this upcoming season.

I was hooked but for every brilliant moment there are about 5 "Why did they do that?" moments.
