BY THE HOARY F*&@!*%'n HOSTS!
Aug. 13th, 2007 03:28 pmGIP, to show off my new improved version of this icon.
My amazon.com package arrived. I am a haaaaaaaapy panda.
IF.... (four periods, not three) was expensive, but so worth it, and a movie night simply must be arranged. Same goes for THE MONSTER SQUAD, which sure isn't for all tastes, but to those who gravitate towards 80's kids-in-peril flicks like I do, oh hell yes, this DVD is magnificent. As if I needed another reminder of his awesomeness, Tom Noonan is now on my short list of actors to cast as Bub for my Johnny Go movie (other options include Howard Sherman first and foremost of course, but also Ron Perlman or Simon Pegg on platform shoes).
Also, because the library copy is falling apart, I went ahead and bought HOUSE OF LEAVES, which is already getting dangerously close to overhyped for my comfort, while still intriguing the heck outta me. Don't pump it up too much, people!
The question now becomes do I start this, or do I keep plowing through Roger Zelaney's CHRONICLES OF AMBER complete all-in-one volume, which is awesome, but also ten frickin' books long? Seriously, I can see why this is Bloo's favorite book of all time, it's totally great, but dear lord, people, yikes. Books like this on my reading list are why I can never, ever read HARRY POTTER. Hell, I wanna reread THE BROTHERS KARAMAZOV someday, as it's my own personal favorite novel of all time.
In other news, I understand the upcoming DOCTOR STRANGE animated DVD movie might not actually suck. I'm really hoping that Marvel's direct-to-DVD films are finally getting it together, as they've been lackluster so far. Still, I have to say that it's getting kind of annoying how all these VENTURE BROS. fans see this pretty picture of Dr. Strange from the upcoming movie...

... and think "Oh, hey, he reminds me of Dr. Orpheus! Who is this guy?"
Now look. I think VB is one of the best shows on TV right now, I honestly do. And yes, even I admit that I cannot read Dr. Strange without hearing Dr. Orpheus' voice.
All the same, these people just make me wanna go WHAT?? BY THE HOARY HOSTS OF HOGGOTH, YOU KNOW NOT OF HE WHO BEARS THE EYE OF AGAMOTTO, WEILDS OF THE CRIMSON BANDS OF CYTTORAK, AND IS THIS EARTHLY REALM'S SOLE DEFENSE FROM THE OTHERWORLDLY MENACE OF THE DREAD DORMAMMU, THE SORCERER SUPREME, DOCTOR STEPHEN STRANGE?!?!?!
Damn kids today, not knowing their Marvel Comics.
I blame the hip hop.
... Man, I'm getting restless. I should go to the gym, if only as an excuse to get out of the house for a bit.

Date: 2007-08-13 08:01 pm (UTC)also reason # one why I hate The Batman cartoon! Cause these stupid kids will think that is what Batman really is and before you know it we will have some moron at DC re-inventing Batman so he fits that stupid cartoon!!!! I swear if they ever make the comic book Joker like that abomination in that WB cartoon, I will gladly go to jail for takeing out half the DC comic staff!!!

Date: 2007-08-13 08:14 pm (UTC)It's not dissimilar to my ongoing frustration with FIREFLY fanatics who claim to not like westerns.
Oh geez, that fucking Batman cartoon... and especially, on the heels of the Dini/Timm series, which is just fantastic (in that it perfectly cherry-picks the best of Batman over the decades, and tells it in a timeless awesome noir setting).
And yeah, I abhor the Joker there. HOWEVER... and trust me, this is a rare but huge however... I super-grudgingly have to give them credit for this, which I think is a simply perfect Joker moment (and it's written by Paul Dini, which probably explains it):
One of these days, I'm gonna talk Bloo into reenacting this entire thing in our redesigned Joker and Harley costumes, which I'm so gonna introduce into a comic story some day when I write for DC.

Date: 2007-08-13 09:38 pm (UTC)Also cool costumes!!! That is how Joker should always look, no mater what you do to change him, he must always be in a suit....or Bermuda shorts and Hawaiian Tee.

Date: 2007-08-13 09:44 pm (UTC)Did you see that they're coming out with a Killing Joke action figure of Joker in the Bermuda shorts and Hawaiian tee? Too cool.

Date: 2007-08-14 12:52 pm (UTC)p.s. In a totally non-DVD-related question, Deadwood. Did you get a cahnce to watch it and worship Ian McShane? 'Cause he's gonna be on Broadway in December with Raul Esparza and Michael McKean. Pinter's The Homecoming. You come with us. Yes.
Finished rambling now...

Date: 2007-08-14 01:20 pm (UTC)Bloo says I'm not obligated to read past 5, so keep that in mind as well.
No, I have not yet, but I already adore Ian McShane, who told you differently?? Why, I grew up watching LOVEJOY with Mom! We saw SEXY BEAST and I was like, "Mom, why does Lovejoy look like he's gonna cut a bitch?"
Okay, I think I really should see that. Because I had to read THE HOMECOMING in English class, and I fucking hated it. But I've since suspected that I need to actually SEE a Pinter play, as like Chekhov, it might well be an actor's piece more than necessarily a writer's piece (not to say the play itself is bad, but the playwright understands the importance of letting the actors' subtext tell the larger story, rather than lots of exposition and shit... I'm so bleary, am I making sense?)

Date: 2007-08-14 01:36 pm (UTC)It was so long ago that we talked about Deadwood; I couldn't remember if you knew him or I was just fangirling the show. I've seen massive amounts of Lovejoy now, and forthwith there will be no standing in the way of my love for the bastard. mineminemine.
p.s. Have you heard of/seen BBC's Jekyll? See icon.
Dr. Jekyll: Ever killed anyone, Benjamin?
Benjamin: Not personally. I have people.
Dr. Jekyll: You're missing out. It's like sex. Only there's a winner.

Date: 2007-08-14 01:53 pm (UTC)It's not perfect, but there is enough value in the acting, writing, and execution for me to rec it anyone who won't be traumatized by it (and some that will, for their own good).
I've come to terms with the fact that the BBC does everything US can do, only first, better, more quickly, and on a smaller budget. I think it's all the tea.
