and I'll whisper, "no."
Jul. 19th, 2008 12:21 pmWeirdly, enough, you know what just might be my favorite part of the WATCHMEN trailer?
The Smashing Pumpkins song.
You might think I'm insane.
kali921 already raged about the song's inclusion bespoiling the trailer for the adaptation of one of the great graphic novels. I certainly understand this reaction. Others were even more pissed when they realized that the song in question, "The Beginning is the End is the Beginning," is--insult upon injury--the fucking theme song from BATMAN AND ROBIN. What the fuck, right? It's idiocy! It's tacky! It's sacrilege!
It's brilliant.
I should point out, it's not the original version of the song from BATMAN AND ROBIN, but rather a remix. A remix of the theme for the most infamous superhero film at all. And you if you don't think that's not deliberate and beautifully calculated, I urge you to turn your attention back to the nipples on Ozymandias' suit. Snyder has gone on record saying that's no coincidence.
It's a pitch-perfect touch that most people are completely missing. I love it.

Date: 2008-07-19 05:08 pm (UTC)Whoa there, amigo.
I "raged" about the song being used? No, in all fairness, I did not rage. I said: "Poor choice of music, though. It would have been a hell of a lot better without vocals." I still feel that Billy Corgan's emo whine detracted a bit from the trailer, and I thought the melody alone would have been effective. If anything, the commenters to my entry raged more about the song.
