Amazing.

Spectacular.

Marvelous.

It didn't have the slack-jawed sense of "duh duh duh" amazement that X2 had. Rather, this was more like "Unbreakable" (which I still think is the greatest super hero movie ever made, but this one comes close... it's strangely similar in many ways), leaving my eyes welled with tears and a heavy, uncertain mixture of joy and sadness.

Doc Ock was awesome. A childhood icon come beautifully to life. I imagine this must be akin to what many of you felt seeing the Ents and Orcs and Oliphants and Gollum coming to life, these things that have resided in your imaginations for longer than you can remember, and suddenly, there they are, brilliantly realized. Every time he moved, the arms snaking around him, my heart swam. They could have messed the character up, but here they gave him just the perfect mixture of tragedy, evil, madness, arrogance, and even a touch of redemption. This is a much more human and complex villain than Willhem Dafoe's fun but waaayyy over-the-top Green Goblin. So wonderful. I wish I had someone here who could share this joy with me.

But here's the thing: I loved Peter's story even more. In fact, it got to the point that when we'd cut to Doc Ock building his machine, I'd think to myself, "No! Go back to Pete! What's gonna happen?" And to make someone like me think that, that, my friends, is remarkable.

There is so much here I could go on about, from Aunt May's speech to the brilliance that is J. Jonah Jameson to cameos from certain peoples to the opening credits illustrated by Alex Ross (the guy who painted this LJ icon) to the Christ metaphors to the one-two shot ending that hit me so fucking hard I nearly shat my pants. But rather than go into all that, all I can say is see this movie. See it with someone you love. I am very, very interested to hear what y'all thought about it.

I am so glad you enjoyed it as much as you did, as much as I did (minus, of course, the tears... the emotional moments worked, but I simply didn't get to the tearypoint myself; probably on a later viewing).

Did Alex Ross do the graphic novel "Marvels"? I was wondering that earlier today. I could go upstairs and grab my copy and check...

Wow, I'm so glad you liked it that much; it looked extremely promising. Been hearing great things about Doc Ock; can't wait to see it myself. Maybe sometime over the weekend.

Schweet! Love to, though may not be able to; have a long, long list of errands to run tomorrow for the party, the bank, the DMV...but may be able to squeeze out a little time in the afternoon.

Muvico is showing Spiderman (we call him "Schlomo" at the deli) every 30 minutes, from 11:00am to 10:30pm. Heh. Guess I'll pick up a book, maybe have a Molson (eh) at Remomo's, and catch, oh, the 1pm show or some such...

Two parts I keep thinking about today:

(don't worry, no big spoilers)

"Hoo boy" about MJ.

And when Octavius' experiment starts to go awry, the music DISTORTS a little. Gave me CHILLS.
