Still missing...

CRAVAT: I need a cravat. Maybe I can fake it by getting some black silk at the fabric store. The cravat is a must for this costume. Maybe I can bum one off somebody. Hell, if anyone owns a cravat in this day and age, it's theater people.

BUTCHER'S KNIVES BELT: The knife belt is another issue. Clearly it's impossible to get Bill's belt of butcher's knives (a leather belt with holders for all varieties, including cleaver). Next best thing is to either bastardize a tool belt or use a regular belt and get a bunch of knives (that don't look too modern) to hang off of it. Because, seriously, Bill the Butcher would feel naked without his knives.

HUGE FUCKIN' TOP HAT: At [livejournal.com profile] tomperdue's suggestion, I am going to try to get in contact with the costume company that we used for "Good" to try to get a the huge stovepipe top hat, which, aside from the belt, is easily the hardest part of the costume. And hey, if I can't find a hat, I can always just grease my hair up like in the icon here. Mmmm... greasy.

TO THE REN FAIRE! I'm considering trying for Ren Faire sometime next weekend, either Saturday or Sunday. I'll confer with [livejournal.com profile] erzebetbathory to see if that's cool with her. Full costume, 400 or so years too late. I want this costume to totally kick ass. So far, so good.

I've never been to a Ren Faire.

What's the typical breakdown of people in costume, from each era, of each quality, vs. people who just show up in reg'lar wear?

Full report on my desk by the morning. (heh heh)

As far as the cravat goes...

Dunno if this is in your price range, but one can apparently be had for $20 online.

Never to a Ren Faire? Wow. Well, I'm hardly the authority on such matters. Tazira's probably better equipped to answer all your questions than I. Ren Faires generally involve people getting up in costumes and engaging in activities that more or less (usually less) correspond to the appropriate time period... give or take five hundred years. There're live shows, including sword swallowing, fencing, jousting (always a good time), comedy, music (and wandering minstrels), stores selling costumes and jewlery and weaponry, fritters and frozen bananas and all manner of foods on sticks... off-hand, that's just some of the stuff you'd see at the Ren Faire. Going in GONY costume is about 500 years too late, but hey, better that than 650 years, eh?

Hmm... good price, but no, although these are period, they're not the fashion Bill wears. His are more like scarf/ties. Thanks for the info, though!
