On one hand, I should be more pessimistic. I mean, fool me once... shame on you. Fool... fool me... won't get fooled again. Aw hell, [livejournal.com profile] shadowcaptain has it memorized, I shouldn't even bother. But anyway, yeah, George has betrayed us twice now. Why should this one be any different?

Because... because this is the one where everyone DIES!!! I really shouldn't be intrigued, but it's so dark and evil and, dare I say it,
this one might not entirely totally suck monkey balls. Maybe. Otherwise, ol' Uncle George'll finally have a movie that lives up to its title (ROTS).

What think you, o me brothers and only friends?

I read a plot script attributed to Lucas, but it's got suspicious typos in it.

Honestly, I didn't read the whole thing, since it's kind of convoluted, but to me the best part of the first two movies is the convoluted plots. Cut out the Super Mario Brothers scene in Ep II and you've got a pretty good movie. I thought it was better than Jedi. (Even the Ep II love scene was at least hilariously terrible. "Every time I look at you my nuts ache.")

But if Ep III follows that plot script, it's a pretty good movie. The last 15 minutes of it are predictable, but they're exactly the predictable I want, because that's what ties into Ep IV (for my money by far the best of the series; screw you Ep V lovers).

Lucas said just before Ep I that everybody was going to hate Ep III, but I think he got it exactly backwards. As long as he doesn't fuck it up too bad with his lousy car chases (it's funny, because I didn't mind the speeder chase in Jedi or the awesome cool Death Star Trench chase, but the pod race and the "journey through the center of Naboo" and the suck-ass Super Mario Brothers scene really pissed me off; I dunno if I got older or if Lucas lost his ability to direct chase scenes) it is a good story.

And of course there's the critical "is anybody every going to care about Hayden Christiansen as Vader" problem. I've been told he's a very good actor; I heard Kevin Kline praise his work in Life as a House, which I haven't seen. So it's the combination of bad dialogue and bad directing, but that never hurt Luke Skywalker, who had all the same downside plus lousy acting.

Gonna see it, probably opening day.
