I am dead serious. In all the years I've been seeing shows at the Shakespeare, I honestly believe PERICLES was their greatest, most wonderful, most flawless production.
Plus, two words: "Enter Pirates."
Absolutely... amazing. I absolutely urge every single one of you to see this show, because you will almost certainly never see another production of this play, much less this brilliant. It's matched only by the film of TITUS in its brilliance and innovation with a less-than-wonderful play; I don't think I could ever produce it, because I don't think I could ever touch this production.
This was a rare Shakespeare problem play that wasn't boring, nor was it like some of the comides like Midsummer or Much Ado where I become a kind of Klingon Sam the Eagle, fold my arms, and say disaprovingly: "There is too much merriment here."
I left that show feeling absolutely warm and fuzzy, and just a little bit choked up. Absolutely magical.
One more time: "Enter Pirates." "YARR! A PRIZE! A PRIZE! YARRR!"
