I got a bunch new DVDs for my collection, some bought by my father, the rest by me (I love scouring Best Buy's cheap DVD section). Here's the rundown of new additions:
BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID- A must for any collection. I must begin speading the word.
FRAILTY- a wonderful little indie thriller/horror story from Bill Paxton, his first and so far only directoral effort. Fucked-up and unsettling story about a loving father of two sons who wakes up one night, convinced that God is speaking to him and commanding him to slaughter demons who are disguised as normal people. Great film that got props from Raimi and Stephen King, and deserved more attention.
GRAND CANYON- I actually have not yet seen this one, but if was five bucks, had a great cast, is a Lawrence ("Silverado," "Body Heat") film, and so I figured why not?
SPRING FORWARD- Another lovely indie film no one's ever seen; a story of friendship between two governmental sanitation workers played by Ned "squeal like a pig" Beatty and Liev "I should have played Hamlet, damn it" Schriber.
TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME- a movie that makes less sense than the usual David Lynch movie, and absolutely NO sense at all if you'd never seen the TV series. So you're just going to have to sit down and watch both. Which you all should.
NARC- Saw this on TV the other day, and holy shit, I had forgotten just how absolutely brilliant this movie is. A cop story with a definite feel of the brutal harshness of '70s cinema, Jason Patric is your typical cop-on-the-edge paired up against a fat, ugly Ray Liotta, who plays one of the single most complex, compelling characters I've seen in recent film (note: this would make a great double-feature with COP LAND, which I simply must be adding to my collection one of these days).
REVENGERS TRAGEDY- This is it,
chickenhat: You, me, and a bunch of Rudes to watch Eddie Izzard and Derek Jacobi in Alex Cox futuristic take on 17th Century drama.
