sometimes I just kill myself
Jan. 14th, 2005 04:24 pmI am amused that a lot of people didn't get the TROY 2 poster joke at first. Hell, I'm sure there are some out there who STILL haven't gotten it. It's humor well in the style of
fiveseconddelay: as I like to call it, it's just outside the circle of immediate relevance. The joke was, of course, that all the characters were in the cast of TROY.
Further amusing is that most people don't recognize at least two characters, the most common confusions probably being Monk, Miss Julie, and save for those
disc_sophist had turned onto it, Sharpe. Monk is Walter "Monk" McGinn, played by Brendan Gleeson (Menelaus), from GANGS OF NEW YORK, a huge pissed off Irishman with a club. And like Dave says, there's no way you can beat a huge pissed off Irishman with a club.
And Miss Julie (Saffron Burroughs, Hector's wife) is the title character of August Strindberg's naturalist play (and from what I understand, perhaps the ONLY good naturalist play), and was adapted by Mike Figgs for the film version. Which, I might add, is
erzebetbathory's favorite movie of all time. She can better explain the nuances of the character of Julie, but suffice it to say that having Miss Julie in a knock-down drag-out battle is kind of like using Hamlet, or Torvald from "A Doll's House." That said, I sure would like to see the mind games she plays with Hannibal.
Geek that I am, I'm still thinking about this fight. I mean, you have Lawrence and Hannibal as your strategists, Sharpe and Legolas as your military leaders, Hulk, Sabretooth, Tyler Durden, and Monk as your scrappers, and Miss Julie as... Miss Julie. Hell, if I could learn Flash, I'd make a fan trailer.
In other news having absolutely nothing to do with this, I got a Clive Owen SIN CITY poster from my comic book shop. *squee*

Marge: I don't, but I enjoyed hearing it!
P.S.: Now that the joke has been explained for me, I would have liked to have seen Don Quixote mix it up with the rest of them. But yeah, Lawrence of Arabia is one of the greatest blah blah blah. You keep your guilty pleasures, and I'll keep mine.
