So, the Leagues audition happened, I forgot to mention that. "How did it go," I've been asked a number of times, and the only answer I have is, "it went." I just sorta feel like I do after I take an exam, that I did everything that I thought was right so we'll just have to wait and see. I did a monologue from VIGIL (from those who remember, it's the chunk that includes "The day my father died, he was quite definite about it... well, of course he shot himself, but still..."), and I'm still not certain it was the right choice for my monologue. It didn't convey a huge range of emotion and stuff, but I knew that I knew VIGIL well enough and that it was refined enough that it would probably be fine to audition with.

I'm not sure what could have been better. So, yeah, I don't really feel that great about it, but then again, I didn't feel at all good about last year's audition, where I did my "Cuckoo's Nest" monologue, and I ended up getting called to audition at Ford's Theatre, so there you go. I just wish I had an inkling of some sort, a reaction from somebody, but I got nothing. So we'll just have to wait and see if anyone calls. Hrmm.

Anyone else know where a brother might look for professional auditions beyond (gag) the Weekend section of the Post?

In other news, I hit up Pla-Za art supplies store to get some stuff for my comic. As I haven't really drawn anything beyond the odd doodle in the margins of class notes for about four years, I haven't had any reasons to visit the store. I tell you, though, within seconds I was filled with giddy joy. So many toys! So many things to play with! Big pastels! Pulpy natural paper with, like, twigs and shit in it! Sketch pads and watercolor pads and ooh, pads for final drawings! And my GOD, they make different kinds of leads for mechanical pencils, hot diggity damn! No more sharpening, ever! Ha-HA!

I ended up getting just a few things for now, like one of those drawing pads, for which I'll try to use for the actual comic pages. They seem about the right general size for the printers when the time comes. I also got a smaller figure drawing mannequin, which will help with proportion, that bane of my existence. And finally, the holy grail of my search, a blue copy-not pencil, so's I can use it for layouts and pencil over it, and it won't show up on the printed photocopies! Just like them real comic drawy types use! Of course, as I was putting five bucks down for it, I was kinda wondering if a regular blue colored pencil for a buck wouldn't achieve the same effect? Or is the expensive copy-not a *magical* pencil?

For anyone who's interested, looks like I may be doing LAND OF THE DEAD tomorrow (Friday) night at the midnight showing at Arundel Mills Muvico.

Actor's Center. It's all about the Actor's Center. Either wait till those prices go down, or, if you really want, I'll just give you my password and username for the member's area that includes audition postings. That's kind of frowned on as its a non-profit organization that thrives on those dues, but at this point, I'm not using it anymore, because anything that's casting now either conflicts with my work and class schedule or will spill over into the academic year. So during these months where i'm not using it someone really ought to. If we were both using it, I would feel bad, but since we're not, really; well let me know if you need to save $40.

that and i believe the URL is castingcall.us, but i have to double check that, and search the baltimore and dc markets. Most of that stuff is union, but not everything. And they frequently have the same listings the actors center does, and frequently they list things actor's center doesn't. and they're free sooooo....

Yeah, leagues are so hard to tell. I went to an audition at the Kennedy Center and it was suggested that I email bdragonuk at hotmail. This guy Brian apparently runs a listserve and compiles auditions from lots of sites into one email for this region.

Supposedly that's how it works. My friend in Tommy told me about it, but I never got the actual email address until I was talking to someone else today.

I need to email him too...
