thehefner: (Damn! Damn! Damn!)

How... I ask you, how... is it possible that I am more awake now than I have been all day? Nay, the past three days? I have energy. I have drive. I also have to be up to shower and drive to work in six hours so I can be active until roughly around, oh, this very same time 24 hours from now!!! Gah! I was tossing and turning, sore and tired as all hell, and now I'm like PING! Wide awake. No fair.

So I've spent the past couple hours drawing, trying for the first time to do some basic concept sketches of some of the key figures in my novel. Basically, I've just been copying the work and techniques of several artists who are especially adept at facial expressions. Heck, I'm not interested in having an original style, I just want to be able to draw something well enough for the story. Or at least, well enough for Dave to come in with his magical inks and make everything better and cleaner and finished.

Somehow, from the basis of a picture of the Flash, I managed to do a pretty damn good one of myself pre-weight-loss complete with muttonchops and mop-top-mullet. The attempts to draw Dave via Guy Gardner were not as successful, if only because I don't think Dave has as many wrinkles as Guy. Basically, I just drew Guy's face and head structure, but added a beard and mohawk. Heh, at this point, I'm probably just gonna put up a disclaimer on how people shouldn't expect good likenesses. Without having all the actual guys there, they're not gonna be perfect, so whatever. I'll try to catch the essence. For example, I think for Tammy I'll base her on manga girls. Heh, she hated it when someone told her she looked like an anime character. I also finally tried my hand at one of the most important but challenging scenes, May Day. Anatomy and facial expressions both need to be just perfect for both May Day scenes (2004 and 2005) to really work.

Of course, at this point I'm realizing that I've just got so much material I might as well split it into parts, make it a couple books, a mini-series, or heck, even an ongoing. But let's worry about that later. Whatever the format, I think I'll call 'em THE HEFNER MONOLOGUES, since they basically are my stories adapted for comic form and, heck, might as well try to capitalize off the name, eh?
