Still haven't heard back from Woolly Mammoth since Monday's audition. This isn't encouraging. One would hope they'd at least send a general e-mail saying, "thanks but no thanks," y'know? That's what we did at WAC; you'd think a professional theater would be as couteous. This Sunday I actually auditioned for a short film at Montgomery College, but they never even called me back to tell me I didn't get it. Are these people cowards or just lazy? Not that I'm really bitter, mind you. My consolation prize is King-motherfucking-John, after all, and working with my best friends to be silly.

The bad news is I guess it's back to the job hunt for me.

Oh and by the way, BABE 2: PIG IN THE CITY is a fucking scary movie. I mean, in that subversive scar-the-fuck-out-of-little-kids kind of way. Mickey Rooney as a clown only helps that, but it isn't the only reason. This is a dark ass movie.

Professional theatres in this area never call...you just need to assume that it's been long enough at some point that you're not going to hear. That or wait until the show opens and realize you're not in it. Seriously, I haven't met any that call those they aren't calling back/casting.

Ditto NYC. It's part of the nature of the beast.

I was supposed to go that audition on Sunday. I wish I had known you'd gotten called too. Ultimately I decided against it, because when I spoke to the director she sounded like she was too terribly annoyed to talk to me even though it was SHE who called me first. She also said she wasn't sure if the script would be fleshed out by the audition and she couldn't tell me where she got my headshot. In otherwords, it sounded all very clueless.

Check your inbox, again ;)

When you drop off a job application somewhere and they decide not to hire you, do they call? it's best to look at professional auditions the same way; it'll keep you from taking it personally.

It speaks to my experience in searching for a job that I actually didn't know they they wouldn't call you back if you didn't get the job. In fact, I'd be reacting the exact same way if this were a job-job instead of acting. I'd hope and expect they would call to tell you that you didn't get it so you could move on to your other options as quickly as possible than leave you hanging.

I'm not taking this so much as personally as I am in a "dude, that just kinda sucks to people" kind of way.

I suppose it does but wouldn't it suck to be the person who has to make 30-40 "no" calls per day?

It's not practical to be polite in this instance, so the convention is just to call people you've got good news for. As you get used to that convention, you learn to move on and always be looking for opportunities as though you've already received the no call. then when the yes call comes you decide what to do with it. you have the power in that case, not them.

I just think, like, when you apply to colleges, they tell you if you don't get in. And usually you're applying to more than one college. Now, I wasn't counting on just this one audition; between this, the opera, the movie, King John, the comic store, and my brother's wedding, I have a lot to plan around. And I don't really like being left hanging when I'm trying to pull together plans, y'know? Sure, it may suck for them, but I don't care. And hey, like I said, they can just as easily and effortlessly do a blanket, "sorry, thanks for coming by!" e-mail. If they can send me the sides via e-mail, they can do that too.
