Too many projects? Me? Naaahhhh
Apr. 6th, 2004 07:27 pmI have about a month left before the semester is over. For Playwrighting class I'm working on an idea I've been bouncing around in my head for about three years. A handful of peeps here have read the short story wherein I introduced this character, which I still think was the best thing I've yet written. Now I've been working on a playscript treatment of this character, and the more I think about it and what I'm trying to accomplish, the more I find I'm falling in love with this play.
The trick, as with the novel, is trying to explain what the story's about. I suppose the best way to say it is "it's centered around a likeable, charismatic serial killer." Which always registers some form of nervous laughter and a "Uh huh, I see, good luck" type of response. But no, I really think I have something good forming here. The trick is just getting it all down. And heck, I'm not even sure if it's made for a play. I keep toying with the idea of doing it as a novel or as a graphic novel, or even as a movie, but music plays an important part in the story as I have it currently formed, and dash it all, I'm a long-winded bastard (as readers of my LJ can attest).
Meanwhile, I'm giving my novel a rest from the revision process to focus on my schoolwork. I'm still kinda bummed at losing what revisions I did make when my computer died. As to that, I'm now at the mercy of Best Buy's computer people to let me know just how doomed it is (the good news is I do have the warrenty, the bad news is that they're Best Buy and will no doubt try to screw me out of it).
So right now, I have the novel, the serial killer play, the Jules Feiffer project, the Arkham Asylum play, the Hefner Monologues, my 10+ follow-up novels, and an autobiographical stream-of-consciousness graphic novel I'm toying around with right now. Maybe if I put them ALL together, I might come away with one completed project.
