thehefner: (Celebrate!)
The GRINDHOUSE/HOT FUZZ technical triple feature proved to indeed be the greatest six hours I have ever spent in a theater.* And who was man enough to take on such a massive cinematic thrill ride? Who had the balls to shun a "gorgeous"** day to sit in a theater and behold a massive dose of geek-candy masterworks?

My motherfuckin' Mom, bitches.

The experience was marred solely by the trailer for DELTA FARCE besoiling the movie screen. At least it had TREJO in it, thus making it look sorta fitting, but only barely so. I suppose it's Hefnerian; I can't even have a brilliant cinematic experience without just a touch of something unspeakably horrid as Larry the Cable Guy.

GRINDHOUSE, I've already ranted about several times before. But I'll just say that if you haven't seen it in a theater yet, DO. Holy God people, if you have any, any geek in you, I'm begging you, go. It just ain't gonna be the same on TV, and it just ain't gonna be the same as two separate films. It's not just empty escapist fare like 300 either, there's actual artistic cinematic value to be taken from this amazing experience. No, shut up, I'm totally serious!

HOT FUZZ... well, I just need to see it at least twice more before I can give you any sort of opinion other than YAY. Although first I clearly need to watch BAD BOYS II, POINT BREAK, and LETHAL WEAPON (shocking, I know; for one of Shane Black's biggest fans, I've never seen the one film he's never been able to live down, while KISS KISS BANG BANG gets largely ignored).

I will just say that one of the best comments I could give this film... is that fact that you just can't compare it to SHAUN OF THE DEAD. It's a totally different kind of story, with totally different characters. I am now very impressed by Simon Pegg as an actor*** and cannot wait to see what kind of career these guys have ahead of them. They've truly established themselves as not being one-hit wonders.

A fine day. And now I shall pass out, as I shall be getting scoped tomorrow to see just how much damage my acid reflux has done. FUN.

*Totally beating thirteen years ago, when Mom introduced me to sneaking into movies, and in one evening, we watched THE LION KING, SPEED, and BLOWN AWAY. As you can see, it was a stellar line-up indeed.

**Which is to say, clear, sunny, and 80 degrees. HSSSSS!!! Too damn bright by half! Ugh ugh ugh! Give me a dank hole to crawl under until 7pm, plz.

***If Robert Downey Jr. never plays Edgar Allen Poe, Pegg should totally do it. The guy's head is like a pumpkin!
