1.) SHAKESPEARE AND L.A. STORY ON IMDB
So I'm rather proud of my geek self. I was appalled (not not really surprised) that the imdb.com listing for "L.A. Story" trivia section was sorely lacking in information on the film's numerous Shakespeare references. Like, they didn't get a single reference. Oh, wait, no, the sharp trivia writer DID get that the Rick Moranis gravedigger is from Hamlet. Good for you, you win a cookie. So I registered and added in four more references- the "this (L.A.) England" speech was from Richard II, "sound and fury" from Macbeth, "There are more things in heaven and earth, Harris, than are dreamt of N your philosophy," was from Hamlet, and the really obscure one, "Oh wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, most wonderful, and yet again, wonderful," from As You Like It. Now once those are added, the three other geeks who look up such things on imdb.com will finally get the references. Boo-yah.

2.) THIS IS MY HOUSE
I'm working at the comic shop today, and so far five people have remarked on my playing my CHESS CD: "I'm not too used to hearing showtunes in a comic shop." Yeah, that's because they're all plebeians, not a classy joint like ours. They probably sell Pokemon cards too, I bet. Losers.

3.) COACH FRICKIN' KOHLER SINGS!
Kristen and I went to see Hairspray at the Kennedy Center last night. A hollow show, but fun nonetheless. And dude, John Pinette was playing Edna! COACH KOHLER FROM PARKER LEWIS CAN'T LOSE! *SQUEE*! I met him afterwards, what a sweet and huge guy.

4.) OH SPACEY, YOU WONDERFUL MASTURBATORY CLOSETED HOMOSEXUAL, YOU
BEYOND THE SEA was an odd little movie. The obviousness of how much of a vanity project it was made it jarring for awhile, but damn if I didn't get absorbed into it. It might have been better off as a live stage show, honestly. And there's no argument that Spacey had the moves and the voice of, if not Darin himself, that of a real swingin' showman. A curious little film.

5.) WOMEN SHOULD READ SUPERHERO BOOKS
My goal is to get more girls and women to read superhero comics. I think superhero stories are capable of being every bit as moving and powerful as any other types of stories. For god's sake, stuff like LOST and BUFFY and FIREFLY being written by people who grew up with or have actually written superhero comics! There is no good reason why the legions of female Sandman fans shouldn't be reading superheroes as well, as long as they're well-written. No reason at all.

6.) ALL RIGHT, YOU GOT ME
Ma and I are halfway through the FIREFLY DVDs. And although we both really seriously dislike BUFFY and ANGEL (if only it were just the Spike show...), we're hooked. Whedon's annoying "witty" dialog actually works and is fun here. I was really anticipating hating Kaylee, just because I hate every single one of Joss' cute innocent characters that he has in everything he does (Kitty in X-Men, Fred in Angel, Willow... ok, Willow was good half the time, but even she really got on my nerves sometimes). If Kaylee was more hyper and bouncy like I thought she would be, I'd hate her, but she is thankfully and surprisingly very low-key and sunny. And a tomboy, always hot. Yes, FIRELY is the best sci-fi show I've seen since FARSCAPE.

7.) BUT...
Mom and I are agreed, FARSCAPE is still better. Because FARSCAPE has Crichton, one of the coolest heroes ever, Scorprius, who out-spikes Spike in badassedness, and real Jim Henson muppets. What does Firefly have? Joss Whedon and a Baldwin. FARSCAPE=winner. And seriously, FIREFLY fans, how is it so many of you have never seen FARSCAPE? Even if you don't prefer it, you'd still absolutely love it! This makes Heffie sad.
