thehefner1.) Thinking about the saga of Johnny Go and Bub the Zombie. Where they will go, the people they will meet, the cars they'll drive, the enemies they'll face, the bizarre character's they'll encounter, the lessons they'll learn, how they'll evolve and what they'll learn about themselves, etc. This story is where all my happy is going. I only hope that when it's finally finished, it can be even half as fun, powerful, and fulfilling as it deserves to be.
2.) Comic books and graphic novels (yes, there is a difference, but both part of the same art form). There are just so many wonderful, influential, powerful stories out there that simply cannot be told through any other medium.
3.) Superheroes. How can I try to explain the awe and the wonder of these being to someone? For many, they're little more than big boobed women and ridiculously ripped guys in flashy colors beating the crap out of yeah other. More than anything else, I've had the hardest time trying to justify superheroes to "normal" people, especially women. Then I read something like "Marvels" or watch "Justice League Unlimited" or "Unbreakable" and for reasons I just can't explain, I'm reminded why I love these characters so much and I only wish I could convey that one to others.
4.) People who just "get it," by which I mean, the odd things that I "get." Those odd, obscure personal passions. Maybe that's just because I seek validation in the things that make me happy, but there you go. It often helps when those people are pretty girls.
5.) Shakespeare. Even the Shakespeare plays I dislike, I still love (well, except Timon of Athens, that just sucks). There are so many people out there who hate Shakespeare, and or maybe they like the comedies but hate the tragedies, or maybe they love them all except Hamlet or some such thing. To all of them, I say, "you just haven't seen it done right yet." I think everybody needs to see Henry V and Titus. Everyone. But for me, yeah, they make the happy for Heffie.
6.) Acting, it should go without saying. Playing different characters, whether I'm stretching myself or in very comfortable territory, as long as there's a good audience and I'm on my game, I'm happy.
7.) When a story comes together. I don't especially like the writing process, it's stressful. But when I actually pull it off, it's a rush. I remember the one night I was hopped up on Krank'd and spent the hours of midnight-6am doing some of the best writing of my novel. I read it now and think, "wow, this is really good! I just hope my readers get to this point!"
8.) Feeding off someone's reactions when I'm showing them a movie I love. Watching a familiar movie with someone else can be like watching the movie for the first time, it really can. Maybe that's one of the reasons I love Ravenous, because it provokes such strong reactions in people. I just love when someone is just so into it. 10.) Those incredibly rare moments where, for no good reason, everything just feels all right with the world. They usually don't last much longer than a half hour, but damn they're nice.
Bonus 11.) Performing Hefner Monologues. I absolutely love entertaining a room with these stories. I love crafting them and getting reactions. I love when people are captivated and actually into when I'm telling. That I can talk about even the darkest, most embarrassing, most hurtful parts of my life and turn them into entertainment. That last year, acquaintances were pulling me aside in the cafeteria asking me to tell them a story. I simply love it.

If so, the roles I have performed in order, from my high school days to my post collge present, are: Pistol from Merry Wives, Prince Edward in Henry VI, Sir Andrew Aguecheek in Twelfth Night, Trinculo in The Tempest, Silvius in As You Like It, Ed Lancaster in Richard III, and I'm currently in the last month of rehearsals for the title role in King John.
When it comes to least favorites... well, here's the thing, there's only one Shakespeare play that I think is just so crap it's unperformable, and that's Timon of Athens. But someone may prove me wrong, we'll see. I personally actively dislike Midsummer and Romero, just because I think they're overrated fluff pieces, just popcorn Shakespeare, but they're still Shakespeare so when I see them I can't help but at least be entertained nonetheless. And I personally don't enjoy or "get" the appeal of Macbeth. I think it's a decent play, but pales in comparison to the rest of the Big Four tragedies, Othello, King Lear, and Hamlet.
My favorite Shakespeare plays are Titus, which is another fluff popcorn Shakespeare but soooo much fun, Hamlet, which needs a lot of editing but is still so moving and wonderful, Twelfth Night, Merry Wives (pure farce!), Richard II (pure poetry), Richard III (evil glee), and my personal favorite is King Lear. It's the most underrated of the ones that people consider his masterpieces. I cannot here properly convey my love for this play.
I think after a post like that I killed that cat several times, I dare say.

Date: 2005-08-26 08:18 pm (UTC)I've been in Much Ado three times, "The Scottish Play" three times, Midsummer twice (once as Puck), As You Like it twice, Henry V, The Tempest twice, Julius Ceasar (Soothsayer, etc.), Twelfth Night, Hamlet, and Romeo and Juliet. I also did a short touring R&J for high schools, and a thing called "Shakespeare's Shorts", which consisted of numerous cuttings from his plays.
Timon doth suck. Not too fond of Coriol-anus, either. I can't figure out why more people don't love Titus Andronicus. I totally dig MacB and Harry the five, though, so what do I know?
