Went back to WAC, jack, to see Kate's thesis. Best compliment I can give the show is to say well worth the gas money. Juliana is a force of nature, pure and simple, and Molly is so cute I just wanna spread her on a cracker. No, I have no idea what that means either, but is it any less random than comparing her to a button?

Driving back to my old college is utterly surreal, especially since the last time I did was to take Misty back after King John. That drive is now entirely populated with the ghosts of Tammy and Misty, the rides I shared with them on that long journey and the times I rode alone while they utterly dominated my thoughts. And now, especially the last time I drove up, which was to take Misty back a couple weeks ago and all the stuff we talked about then. The only release I had from the tension was that Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion" came on NPR, and I tell you, there are few things as zen and soothing as having Garrison tell you a story.

But of course what's one of the first things I do when I arrive an hour early on campus? I go through the student cafe area. Granted, I was hungry and told myself that's why I was there, but c'mon, of course I was there seeing if she was at work. When I saw she wasn't, I tried to get back into my old dorm, Middle Hall, but was locked out and no one to let me in. So as it was a nice night I came down with a case of the Ol' Wandries, as I like to call 'em, and took a stroll. And that, of course, was when I ran into Misty.

It couldn't unfolded more cinematically. We were coming at one another from both sides of the thick fog billowing from the vents. My hair had grown slightly longer and her short hair was pulled back just like she still had her long ponytail, and through the smoke we came toward each other like ghosts from the past.

I took her completely off-guard, which is always fun. She invited me to walk with her to work, we talked, it was good times. It's amazing; the few times we've lately talked over IM it's so hard for me to hold back snarkiness. In person, she and I get along like old friends. Because, well, we are old friends. It sure feels like a long time ago, at least. Well, actually, I couldn't hold back from the snark entirely, just once when a co-worker poked her with a knitting needle:

MISTY: Ow!
CO-WORKER: I just feel like stabbing you sometimes.
ME: Boy, do I know that feeling! (Misty doesn't laugh, looks a little guilty. I rub her shoulder) Sorry, kid.

I went on as John Hefner is wont to do, talking and ranting and gesturing and telling stories. I then realized another one of her co-workers, a bohemian freshman named Red, was watching me intently. She said, "God, it's like watching Charlie Chaplin! Your facial expressions, you body language, you should so do a silent movie!" Which, along with my brother likening me to Richard Pryor (seriously) after my Best Man speech, was one of the best compliments I'd ever received.

Red and I talked for a goodly while, after which I discovered that Misty was thinking about trying to hook us up together. I said, "Wait, Misty, wasn't this the girl you were telling me about before who was cool but totally crazy and bad news?"

Oh, silly Misty. Silly, crazy, cold, funny, daft, selfish, smart, cruel, kind, beautiful Misty. I have moved on, will keep moving on, and have achieved a wonderful detachment from her. And yet as with Tammy, even after everything, I'm always gonna love this damn fool girl.

And so now I'm back. Away from my old college and back into my current real life, where I have no girlfriend and am doing absolutely nothing tonight.

Maybe I just have a dirty mind, but I would have taken that as a sexual innuendo.

Which, oh strange anonymous person, is probably actually better than, say, jokingly implied murderous intent.

::grins:: Mmm, Molly on a cracker. Hehe. That's one that I've not heard before, but it's appreciated. Thank you so much for coming! It was good to see you, boyo. :-D
