As with any "OMGGREATESTALLTIMEWOOTDSUWDJHW!!!1!" lists, there are some highly dubious choices here (The Matrix? Run Lola Run? I loved Lola Rennt, but dude, WTF?) but I am heartily pleased to see stuff like my all-time favorite ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST up there, as well as Chaplin movies like MODERN TIMES and brilliant classics like 12 ANGRY MEN and THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE. And may I say how plesantly surprised I was to see that SCARFACE was nowhere on the list? Thank merciful fuck!

Which movies have you seen?

I agree with it for the most part(at least as far as the ones I've seen). The Matrix was on odd choice, it's enjoyable as eye candy but that doesn't make it a great movie. I also disapprove of Citizen Kane. It wasn't number 1 so it's a start but it shouldn't be on there at all.

Why shouldn't Citizen Kane be up there? It's incredibly influential, did a buttload of cinematic innovations, and most importantly, is a damn good movie. Sure, it ain't #1, but c'mon, do you really think "Run Lola Run" deserves higher on the list of 100 Greatest Movies?

hmm seems we have a difference of opinion. I thought Kane sucked, it was boring and long. But that is just my humble opinion. I haven't seen Run Lola Run so I can't comment on its superiority or inferiority. But you got movies like Edward Scissorhands, Glory, Ghostbusters, and Akira. I just don't think Kane holds up. I mean Tron was influential and way ahead of its time but even I wouldnt put it on the top 100.

Ghostbusters definitely should be up there. I hate Akira, though. I find it boring, long, and incomprehensible. So figure.

Wow, there is a lot on that list that I haven't seen, but are on my "to watch" list.

And I am pleased as punch that "Spirited Away" made the list.

And notice it's one of the very, very few I haven't actually seen. Bad me.

I love Princess Bride, but one of the best 100? Probably not. Also not Goodfellas, and Toy Story 1 was much better than Toy Story 2. Or how about, All Quiet on the Western Front or Glory? The Color Purple? The Llttle Princess? Driving Miss Daisy? Fried Green Tomatos? My Cousin Vinny? I guess my big question is what is the criteria for chosing the movies for the list?

(BTW, some of the movies you haven't seen yet are well worth the effort. It's A Wonderful Life and Singin' in the Rain come to mind. And what was it about The Sting you hated?)

I just didn't want to waste the "hated it" option if I had it on hand. Actually, thing is, I really did dislike The Sting because, well... I think I just hate con-artists. I don't care if they were stopping an evil con artist (although that does bring to mind other things I disliked... he killed blacky! Now it's time for revenge! meh), I just hate them in general. I hate con artists more than I hate vampires, and that's saying something.

I totally agree with Toy Story. I saw TS2 only a year ago and thought it was severely overhyped. So many people hold it as the high watermark and yet it just isn't compared to TS, Monsters Inc, and Finding Nemo.

I think they're chosen based on user ratings. Which is why we get some great and more obscure choices like ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST and perplexing ones like RUN LOLA RUN.

Yeah, it's kinda appalling how there are quite a few classic movies that I'd missed out on growing up watching obscure shit.
