thehefner: (Johnny Go and Bub Drawing)
[personal profile] thehefner
I've heard tell to hold off buying a Mac for about a month, as there's reason to believe they may be about to unveil a new one at some big convention in San Fran. Anyone else hear 'bout this?

I had forgotten how good it felt to draw. I've been sketching Bub and Johnny Go until I can get someone to help me take pictures so I can get to work on drawing the actual comic, and so far the results have been mostly very satisfying. Lord knows what the hell I'm gonna do when it comes to drawing crowd scenes or backgrounds (google image search- "Desolate stretch of post-apocalyptic highway"). I can't draw from memory worth shit, but I can adapt from pictures pretty well, I think. Well enough to produce a decent first issue anyway, or so that's the hope.

And until I can find a better way to do it, it looks like I'll be making comic book word balloons via MSPaint. Times like this I really do wish I had photoshop. Somehow I'm just guessing that the graphics programs that come standard on Macs are a tad less ghetto-fabulous than MSPaint.

If the icon you used for this post is something you drew, I would say that you don't really have anything to worry about. At all.

No, that's not mine. Unfortunately, my scanner is broken for reasons we still don't understand, so I can't post my own art here yet.

Some would say that this is the perfect time to buy a computer if that is the case. I don't know if Apple is releasing anything new, but when they get close to the release date of a new platform they have to empty out the warehouse of all the older stuff so they sell it cheaper. I bought my Dell in '01 right before they released everything with flat panels and more memory and Windows XP for less than $700 (the new stuff that came out that Christmas was over $1000 for a comparable PC with the updated gadgetry). So if you don't need the top-of-the-line brand new technology, it's not necessarily a bad idea for you to look into the current macs.

Fun thing about a laptop is MSPaint. You can use the little mouse pad thinger like finger paints! It's terrific!

But it's also ghetto-fabulous, which is fine when making silly icons but not so good when one wants to make a nice-looking comic.

Apple is about to change their core processor in all Mac from Power PC to Intel processors. This is a major change of archetecture. This means that current software for the Mac may not be able to work on the Intel based system (though the OS will be the same). If you really want to get a Mac, make sure to ask if any software you get will also work when software for Intel based Mac comes out.

Hey Bitch!
