So. Anna Paquin will be coming to my comic book store next Thursday.

I'm gonna be working there at the time too. Yeah, it's gonna be at the teeny tiny Georgetown store, so I'll be there to handle the register and do crowd control, since it's gonna be a fucking madhouse. It's gonna be bad enough cleaning up the store after Free Comic Book Day.

((Reminder! This Saturday is FREE COMIC BOOK DAY! Anyone who's ever even had a passing interest in checking out the art of illustrated storytelling, otherwise known as "dem funnybooks," swing on by for 10 or so free comics!))

She won't be alone either. There'll be a couple other actors from the generally-99%-craptacular-probability X-MEN 3: THE LAST STAND. Iceman and Callisto for sure, maybe Pyro and Kitty Pryde too.

Yeah, yeah, honestly, unless it's anyone but Anna, Famke, Patrick Stewart, or Ian McKellen (I don't care if I've met him twice already, and neither would you in my position), I could give a rat's ass.

"Sequential storytelling"? What a brilliant idea. I've been telling my stories out of sequence all these years. No wonder nobody ever laughs at the punchlines.

Wouldn't "illustrated storytelling" be a bit closer?

From: [identity profile] thehefner.livejournal.com
Yeah, I'll edit that. I was trying to find another word to subtitute for "art" in "sequential art" but I forgot that I'm sleep deprived, brain fried, and surrounded by smart-asses who will correct me.

Your new suggestion actually is best of all, thankee.

Callisto?

Show that actress some old issues of X-Men where Callisto LOOKED LIKE PATTI SMITH, NOT like some vacuous fifteen year old with a temporary tattoo on her face.

WHERE is the tentacle love? Huh? Huh?!

OMG just read Silver Surfer #2 and squeed on my LJ. OLD SCHOOL!

From: [identity profile] thehefner.livejournal.com
Yeah, but I'm not gonna say that to her face.

But I'm sorry, the tentacles were where I crossed the line. Even I have my limits. Blame the Japanese who robbed me of any love I had for tentacles not attatched to a fat man with a bowl haircut and sunglasses.

Old fucking School in fucking DEED.

What the hell kind of comic book store do you work at that can actually accomidate "celebrity" visitation? My place is a 8x10 hole in a strip mall and when I go its always this one tall creepy looking guy in glasses running the place. Note my use of creepy as an adjective is refering to his general appearence and not his personality, he may very well be a nice guy but it was the only word that could describe him.

Answer: an extremely lucky comic book store that is about the same size as yours, and will therefore be fucking insane come next thursday.

I will be pulling a 13-hour doubleshift on Free Comic Book Day.

It's fine, you're already an addict. The day is mainly meant for people who don't usually read comics. Or want to try something new. If you have a pull list at your store, have them put a few titles aside for you.

Yes, but how can an addict pass up a free hit? (Although I wasn't terribly impressed with the selection last year.)

1. DO NOT MENTION ANIMORPHS TO ICEMAN.
2. X3 looks a metric f-load better than Dan Futterman Returns, or whatever they call that "Supes vs. K-PAX" movie.
3. If Hugh Jackman comes in, tell him to sing "Oklahoma!" Wolverine sings!
4. Ian McKellen is so geek badass (Stephen King movie, J.R.R. Tolkien movies, X-movies) that I can't imagine meeting him without asking "What's it like to be respected by your peers and revered by fanboys worldwide?"
5. With you on the tentacles thing, all the damn way. Bravo.

1.) Oh dear! What not?

2.) I have a lengthy list of complaints and fears for the film, and that's just sight-unseen. Yet I probably will still see the film and I would like nothing more to be wrong. But what happens to Cyke alone tells me that it ain't gonna happen.

3.) YES.

You didn't respond to the Superman Returns comment. Wondering what your thoughts are, now that the trailer's out. I was surprised to see Kevin Spacey mostly aping Gene Hackman's Lex..

Also, Smallville had had a few decent episodes lately, but the last one involved some shitty invisible guy while Clark went around the whole episode forgetting that he had infrared (or whatever) vision. Such painful dialogue sometimes.

In a public place:
"Do you think Invisible Guy knows your weakness?"
"How would he know about the meteor rock?"

They've even been calling it Kryptonite lately, but had to revert to stupid-speak to trod a shitty first-season-esque plot along. So weak.

I didn't get your comment asking about Superman! Or if I did, I totally don't recall it at all, sorry. I only saw the trailer last night.

I think by and large, Spacey's Lex won't be campy. The movie itself isn't campy and Spacey's personality isn't... that. I think he will be old-school EVIL Luthor, leaning more towards the JLU Luthor than the Hackman one.

Jeez, Smallville sounds painful. I only watched it for the Luthors and the good connections to the comics.

Eeeeeeeeeeee!!! What time?

And, which store might you be at for Free Comic Book Day?

It will be around 3ish this Thursday.

Sadly, I have rehearsal this Saturday, otherwise I would be at the comic shop in Georgetown!

....and where is your store, if one were to drag their hungover post-cast party butt into the shop for some comics, babe?

Date: 2006-05-04 01:36 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] thehefner.livejournal.com
I shan't be there Saturday, as I have rehearsal! But if you'd still like to go, it's in Georgetown off Wisconsin Avenue on Dumbarton Street, just across the street from the Five Guys Burgers.
