Last night was the first performance of THE DAVID DANCE. Well, the "pay-what-you-can" preview, anyhoo. It went damn well, technical flubs and all. It's really nice to do a role where I don't have to be a ham, where I shouldn't be a whore for the audience, fun as that is.

The play itself, well, a couple of things still bother me about it. Mainly just the total one-sidedness of it all. That's the thing, I totally agree with the play's politics of gay adoption, but man, I kinda wish the opposing voice in the play was someone other than a radical Christian, y'know? Not even the playwright's well-intentions 11 o'clock scene where he imbues some humanity to the Christian helps the matter, it's too little too late. I don't feel entirely comfortable feeding into such a biased play, no matter how much I agree with it. But the important thing is that it's not a political play, and these stuff just plays into the emotional story. This is a damn good play. Hell, maybe even a great play. Tammy certainly thought so.

Tammy came by to see the show last night. It was the first time I'd seen her in over a year, not since I saw the original run of COMEDY OF ERRORS (not only was she there, but so was Misty, Dave, and Lea. It's a wonder my head didn't explode). She really liked the show, so there you go-- it gets the Tammy seal of approval! Afterwards, we went to a diner for three hours and had a long, lovely talk. Much of it was deep discussion about religion and politics, and some of it was mutual badmouthing of that pigfucker Van Breeman... but most of it consisted of the usual John Hefner arms-flailing goodness ("I've missed the Heffiness," she said. "Brent" her boyfriend, "is funny, but it's a dry wit. I've needed a Heffie fix."). I also, right there in the diner, introduced her to the wonder and glory that is Oingo Boingo's "Little Girls" as only I can.

She had read the Hefner Monologues, and aside from all the typos, she had no problem with it. In fact, she rather loved them and gave her enthusiastic consent to use her real name. She's fine with it because she says that's not the person she is anymore, and just talking with her for a few minutes, I could tell she was right. She's come a long way since I knew her. Hell, we both have. I'm gratified to know that the next and final story of the Tammy saga will actually, truly, have a happy ending.

Now the only problem is that I'm running on six hours of sleep for the whole day of work and then tonight's performance. Woo! *collapses*

Remind me. I have an near complete Oingo Boingo discography in mp3... it includes tracks from when they were the Mystic Knights of Oingo Boingo as well as other gems.

Oh sweeet! I need Mystic Knights stuff, yes, please! I also need the albums Boi-ngo, Good for your Soul, Dark at the End of the Tunnel, and Boingo Alive (although I've already procured the tracks I particularly liked). Plus, the live Farewell album. But especially the early Mystic Knights stuff, oh yes, please.

Shoe? You were lucky to have a shoe! Oh, we used to dream of spending our minute-long naps in a shoe! Woulda been a palace to us! We had to go live in a lake!

Glad she's okay with you using her name in the Monologues and that she's doing better. Seems to be that's a good thing for you, too.
