What was your reaction when you first saw Brandon in the suit?

There's Superman. Actually, when I first arrived on the set in Sydney they were shooting. I came over to the set to visit Bryan and Brandon was walking out of the Daily Planet dressed as Superman, and I just went "Oh fuck. There's Superman." [laughs]

Is it true you tormented him on the set?

I did torment him. [laughs]

What kind of things did you do?

You know when you're on movie sets, they give you a golf cart so you can drive around in the golf cart to get from one stage to the other. I had my golf cart kind of suped-up. I had Kryptonite stripes put on the side, and I had a big Superman logo on the front with an X through it. It was called the Super-Buster. Then we tied a Superman doll on the back with a chain, so I just dragged it around. [laughs] So, on rainy days it was just a mess. By the end of the shoot it was just a little ball, a mess with a cape. Then I had a bullhorn, and I used to scream through the bullhorn "Superman must die!" [laughs] I remember driving back from the stage and Brandon was coming out of his trailer and he hadn't seen this yet. "SUPERMAN MUST DIE!" [laughs]

How did he react?

"Oh shit, I'm screwed."

Also, Spacey announced that this fall at London's Old Vic he will be performing Eugene O'Neill's MOON FOR THE MISBEGOTTEN. Um... so, who wants to go to London with me? Because Spacey + O'Neill = WIN.

Yet another reason to LOVE Kevin Spacey. I really, really wish I could have seen that golf cart.

I love Spacey. But I despise, hate, hate, despise and hate Moon for the Misbegotten. I have seen 3 productions, 1 at WAC and 2 in New York. Hate Hate Hate. I figured it was just the production values when I saw it at WAC. I just hate the play. HATE HATE HATE. Sleepy boring with some boring sleepiness and perhaps somethings that bore me. I care so very little for the play I can't even remember a specific scene from it. at all. oi.

Sorry, for hate this early in the afternoon but I am unusually full of hate this past month...

I took MOON out of the WAC library and read it one day, knowing nothing at all about it. I fell in utter complete love with every single page. Then I saw the movie version with Jason Robards (whom I ADORE) and hated, hated, hated it. Now I'm worried that nothing less than my particular vision of that play when I first read it will ever live up to it.

That said, Spacey in THE ICEMAN COMETH was the greatest stage play I have ever, ever seen.

SPACEY ICEMAN= godlike I agree.

Iceman is just a better play.

I will just have to see your vision of Moon. I cannot bear it as I have seen it. I will do you the fairness of re-reading the play. And accept your dissertation of production, comment and move on. This play has left an indelible black mark on my soul next to some of the larger holes.

hmmmm.

We'll see if I ever manage to see that vision come to life. I was nearly moved to tears reading it several times over, just imagining it in my head. But I agree, Iceman is superior. Iceman... lord, how desperately I want to play Hickey.

I do love how MOON is a sequel of sorts to LONG DAY'S JOURNEY, and how it's also him forgiving his brother. The subtext there makes it all the more powerful for me. But I say again, wow, the movie, which by all accounts should have been wonderful, was a simply painful experience.

I understand how certain plays/stories can just leave black marks on souls. Lord knows I have plays like that.

YEP. As an actor you have the oportunnity to scorch the soul with reading, learning, memorizing, studying, explaining, rehearsing and performing. It just hurts. I have to read it again. I may have missed something. I am willing to try to have an open mind about it, but I make no garauntees.
