Now I'm not sure... it's been a long time since I've seen any of his movies all the way through, but after this screening today... I really, truly think that CLERKS 2 is Kevin's Smith's best movie.

I'd write up a whole review here, but... well, much like the original CLERKS, trying to talk about the movie just doesn't come close to capturing what makes it work. I will say this, though- Smith has learned from his mistakes. Unlike the increasingly bloated bigger-budget spectacles of MALLRATS to DOGMA to JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK, CLERKS 2 is a lean movie, never really over-the-top while still not being "indie" as the original (as well as clearly drawing from the character development and style of the CLERKS animated series, without going into over-the-top animated territory). There's a real maturity here, but not the forced maturity of JERSEY GIRL; a maturity that is still true with everything that makes him work as a storyteller.

I don't think I've laughed so hard and so consistently at a movie since KISS KISS, BANG BANG, and for those who've been following me, that is some pretty damn high praise there from me. This was a joyous movie.

Speaking of joyous, one of the greatest guilty pleasures known to man is getting a sequel, and I couldn't be happier. The trailer for JACKASS: NUMBER TWO is out. Call my taste into question if you must, but I defy most of you to watch the show or the movie and not laugh your ass off.
