Say, anyone know how to go about pulling together a good audio demo for voice-overs? [livejournal.com profile] cavenessity, mayhaps? I found a casting notice for an audiobook type company, so that could be awesome. I just don't have any recording equipment, much less an idea of what to put on there. I need a microphone, certainly. Hmm, could I record and burn a CD with my Mac Powerbook?

The casting notice is looking for "vocal characterizations, accents, regionalisms, dynamic performances." Which I can do, I just need to figure out how to show that.

No one could ever accuse David Lynch of making sense. The man who created Twin Peaks and has raised $1.6 million to promote the virtues of transcendental meditation is not peddling jarring ringtones for your cell phone at $4 a pop. Available starting this week on davidlynch.com - a site that also features the director, complete with pompadour, delivering daily weather reports - the so-called strangetones range in freakitude from a childlike voice repeating "My teeth are bleeding" to an overlord-type voice growling "I...like...to...kill...deer." Another ringtone, which consists of high-pitched screeching that sounds not unlike fingernails on a chalkboard, is aptly named Angst. Can't wait to hear that one go off in movie theaters.

Doing one yourself on the fly in a rush, I can't help you there...but

For the long-term, I'd recommend Ty Ford (http://www.tyford.com), but can be pricey... I hope to record one with him in the next few months.

Did a respectable one with Tunarelli Studios (http://www.tunarelli.com/Services.htm#demo) on the cheap, and nice people to boot.

Ah, so, this is the kinda thing one should be prepared with beforehand, eh? Poop.

Still, thank you heartily for those links! I will certainly check 'em out, as voice-overing is something I'd definitely wanna pursue.

You can probably get software and a mic at your local Best Buy. It won't be as nice as doing it in a studio, but as long as you have a quiet room and no background noise, it should work out ok.

BTW, can you make it up to the party this Saturday?

Now if only they'd include some priceless Frank quotes for our cell phones! Now THAT'S what I want to hear in theatres!!! *^_^*
