Aw, I'm working too late here at the comic shop, which means I won't be able to make it to Nissan Pavillion to see the concert of the decade, nay, the century. DEF LEPPARD AND JOURNEY. Seriously, I totally wanted to go.

I shall make myself feel better by watching the greatest music video of all time.

...

Journey?

The dudes in Journey used to bring their Porsches to my dad's racing shop to be hopped up. When I worked there in the summers, and they happened to come to his shop, I'd make fun of them for being such outdated seventies relics.

Their manager thought I was hilarious.

Hey, if that video is any indication, they are hilariously awesome outdated eighties relics! And I salute them for it!

Seriously, that's pretty damn funny!

Well, NOW they're sort of cool in a heavily ironic sense. They're so uncool that they have achieved coolness by accident.

DEF LEPPARD for the win, though.

What next? Ronnie Jamies Dio? THE SCORPIONS, sir?!

For my money, I'll take the big hair eighties L.A. metal bands in all of their glam campiness: Poison, Cindarella, Hanoi Rocks.

The muthalovin' New York Dolls are coming out with a brand new album on July 25th, I'm told. YOWZA. The first of theirs in...almost twenty and some odd years.

Now, the NY Dolls NEVER were uncool.

They will never be uncool, no matter how cadaver-like David Johanssen becomes. I hear he looks appalling.

Old glammy punky rockers (those that bridged glam into nascent punk circa 1974-1977) will NEVER look appalling. They just look..."mature."

David actually looks pretty good, CONSIDERING. The sad thing? He and Sylvain Sylvain are the only original Dolls left. Johnny Thunders died, Arthur Kane died, Jerry Nolan died...so sad.

Y'know that Jeff Scott Soto of is singing for Journey, right? Jeff Scott Soto, who used to sing for Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force, as well as Misfits members Jerry Only & Doyle's christian metal band Kryst The Conqueror?

I saw Motorhead & Dio open for Iron Maiden about 2-3 years ago.

Now THAT was an ultimate show!

Waitaminute. Jerry and Doyle went Christian?

What? I didn't think Kryst the Conqueror was a Christian band. Wow.

I used to DJ for KALX, the bestest radio station on the planet. I had a Saturday afternoon show for years, and I'm a Misfits fan going waaaay back, and I was acquainted with Glen. Jerry Only walked into my radio station one day unannounced to promote a series of reunion gigs, and I just about died, because I used to fangirl him shamelessly (he was a stud when he was younger). I was on the air and had to hide my total shyness by interviewing him and playing Misfits stuff for an hour. The nice thing? All the times I met Jerry, he was just the nicest, sweetest guy. I love him.

Aww, it's not Steve Perry? Well, in that case, what's the point?

I have to be honest. I'd totally leave while Dio was on stage. I was dragged to a Dio show by an insane German roommate - in fact, I was telling our fine friend [livejournal.com profile] cats_n_crying this the other night via IM - and I spent the entire show laughing hysterically.

Motorhead, however. THE RAWK.

Poor Robert Smith looks like someone's mother now.

Man, that really is sad.

I freaking LOVE Motorhead. I'm a big wrestling geek, and they have extended their careers by essentially becoming Triple H's house band - they've written three theme songs for him now, one of which is actually really good. Plus, you can't forget Lemmy's immortal cameo in "Airheads".

I am a huge Misfits fan. I had, at one point, over 200 pieces of recorded works by or related to The Misfits, most of it promotional, autographed or both.

Most of the flyers, posters, or other collectables that I had (many autographed) I have sold or given away as presents.

Of the 'Old School' I have met Glenn, Jerry, Doyle, Robo, & Bobby. Of all the guys, Bobby was to coolest.

Oh yeah. Jerry & Doyle. Both Born Again, but Doyle was a bit more laid back about it.

Motorhead in a dark smokey club = THE RAWK

Mototrhead in an open-air ampitheater at 6pm in the dead of summer? Clean air? Sunlight? Not so much.

Never was Steve Perry

JOURNEY FORCED TO MAKE LEAD SINGER CHANGE ON NATIONWIDE TOUR

Jeff Scott Soto to assume JOURNEY lead singer duties starting on July 7th in Bristow, VA due to Steve Augeri throat infection

July 6, 2006 -- Due to a chronic throat infection, Journey’s lead singer, Steve Augeri, has been forced to leave the band’s current nationwide tour with Def Leppard. Jeff Scott Soto, who has previously performed with Journey guitarist Neal Schon, will assume the band’s lead singer duties starting with the July 7th show in Bristow, VA. Steve Augeri’s condition will be closely monitored by his physician to determine when he may be able to rejoin the tour.

According to Journey, “Steve’s been suffering with an acute throat condition since before we kicked off the tour with Def Leppard. We were hoping he’d be in well condition to handle the rigors of the road but unfortunately it appears to be a chronic condition requiring total voice rest. We all wish Steve a speedy recovery.”

Wait, wasn't Steve Perry the lead singer of Journey? That's what the sports guy of ESPN.com said; his collumn is from whence I found that awesome video.

From the Wiki Post on Journey: Steve Perry (1977-1987, 1996-1997)

Remember, Journey was founded in 1973, made up of former memebers of Santana, Graham Central Station, and Steve Miller Band (among others). Also, Journey became Bad English in the late 80's when John Waite joined the scene.

Aww man, now I give even less of a crap. If it's not Steve Perry (he who delivered a performance of Pacino-esque intensity in the music video posted above), who cares?!
