thehefner: (Titus Andronicus: We're gonna be in a pi)

So I'm really giddy right now, and I'm worried that if I tell you guys why, you might think I'm a fucked-up weirdo. You'd probably be right, so bear with me.

So in England right there there are two, TWO, productions of TITUS ANDRONICUS going on. One, which is I believe by a Japanese company performing out of Stratford-Upon-Avon, is sadly closing down this Saturday. That version sounds like it really embraced the tragic aspect, making it a tale of LEAR-(and therefore RAN)-esque proportions. God, to have seen TITUS like that would have been wonderful.

title or description

Now the other production is going on at the Globe, and it will be focusing on the other aspect of TITUS. They describe it as, "A fun-filled evening of violence, gore and mutilation." With lots and lots of blood. Oh yes, there will be blood. The director was quoted as saying, "We've used as much blood as possible - I wish we could have had more, but we had to be careful about ruining the costumes." One article alludes to the possibility that makes me think that the groundlings near the stage might wanna wear ponchos. *squee*

Check out the article here, which discusses the number of people who've passed out during performances. The best part is how it recounts that Laurence Olivier used to count the number of fainters in his diary. The more people who passed out, the better job he was doing. And when you read the article, be sure to click on the pictures. That image of Lavinia... ohhh man.

Oh, and the Globe is also doing a little play called ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA starring some guy named Patrick Stewart. Whatever.

Seriously. I don't care if I'm in Grad school come September, I am going to take a couple days off and make it a weekend in London to see TITUS, ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA, and Kevin Spacey in MOON FOR THE MISBEGOTTEN. Oh yes. Yes yes yes.

Could you wait a bit longer than Sept without missing anything? Le Dir says he's been trying to get the theatre company to approve a public staged reading of the play for around Oct/Nov.

(This is my please with a cherry on top face)
(No, really it is)

Unfortunately, Titus and A/C only go to the first week in October!

We, uh, could still meet for tea and you could read snippets to me! Or something.

*sorry sad Wilford Brimley eyes*

"Shotgun blast to the abdomen only pisses Wilford Brimley off"

Gotta love the Onion.
