MONSTER HOUSE
Jul. 23rd, 2006 08:41 pmSo MONSTER HOUSE is absolutely awesome. The Weekend section of the Washington Post badmouthed it as being too scary for kids but too juvinile for adults. Perhaps that reviewer is an idiot, or perhaps the movie just isn't for people like that.
This isn't a silly kids movie by *any* means. Rather, it's actually pretty damn scary (in either a "RETURN TO OZ scar-the-kids-for-life" kind of way, or in a thrilling way that kids would love kind of way) and filled with quite a bit of "did they actually just say that in a kids movie?!" moments.
This movie is fully in the mold of THE GOONIES, GREMLINS, STAND BY ME, even Stephen King's IT. It's the kind of movie Tim Burton hasn't been making, but should be. Honestly, the only thing missing was Danny Elfman music! Ohhh, it so needed Danny Elfman music.
MONSTER HOUSE is some fucked-up shit, and I loved it. I definitely wanna see it again, but in a group. It's the kind of movie that gets better with the reactions of others.
