Lex Luthor is the Man
Aug. 31st, 2006 01:46 amI come bearing scans of what I think might be my favorite single issue of a comic to come out this year. ALL-STAR SUPERMAN # 5: "The Gospel According to Lex Luthor."
I post the entire issue here for a number of reasons. First is because I want to expose comics to non-comic readers. I hope that my posting this here, folks who are curious and/or bored might take a peek and lend their thoughts. Few things give me joy in life like pimping out comics that I consider awesome and worthwhile, especially to folks who don't usually read comics.
And the other reason is to show folks who haven't read much Superman comics what Lex Luthor is supposed to be like. NOT a sleazy, marginally-intelligent used car salesman type with a penchant for wigs and fucking little old ladies for money. And don't get me wrong, I *loved* Spacey in the movie, but that speaks more for his performance than anything else.
Dear lord, could you imagine what that movie might have been like if Spacey played THIS Luthor? Hell, even Hackman? Ah well, at least I still have Clancy Brown in the animated series. GodDAMN I love that man's voice.
In this stand-alone issue, Clark Kent (who is dying of an overdose of yellow sun radiation) interviews Lex Luthor on Death Row, hoping to get some insight as to what drives the legendary supervillain. Throw in a power-hungry Parasite and a bunch of cons and, well... hilarity ensues.
Enjoy.

I think this is the very best Clark Kent I've ever seen. By which I mean, the best effort to not make him look like Superman as much as possible. Does he look like Stephen King there? I can't decide.

Lex looks totally like Michael Rooker from MALLRATS there. Just sayin'.

Have fun, slashers. Have fun.

Ok, this is gonna be tricky, folks. The next two pages are a two-page spread, so you gotta be careful and creative when reading them. I tried and failed to scan 'em as one big picture. Good luck!

I love the expression on Clark's face. Y'know, reading this, even I almost think Clark and Superman are two different people. How often has Superman ever looked like a sad fat doggie?
But seriously. Lex Luthor is hardcore.

still better than used car salesman Lex with no Supes interaction, though.
